What are my chances of getting on flight standby?
Hi,
I am flying to Anchorage, with a connection in Seattle, on Wed May 23rd. My reservation is for this flight,
UA1707 - Depart Seattle at 9.17pm, arrive Anchorage at 11.48pm.
I am hoping I can go standby on this earlier flight,
UA1566 - Depart Seattle at 1.35pm, arrive Anchorage at 4.06pm.
Can anyone tell me what are my chances of getting on this earlier flight, 50%, 90%? I am planning my trip, and reaching there at 4pm vs around midnight makes a big difference in the itinerary.
Thanks.

Its too early to tell what your chances are for the earlier flight. Do you have status? That is supposed to play a role in where you wind up on any standby list.

3/3 was the date United migrated to SHARES and there are many reports of issues/bugs with the system since that date.

OP - you can theoretically standby for free, as you're on a connection, if memory serves, even as a no status member. Just don't check bags.
Hard to tell if the Wednesday before Memorial Day will have a lot of Alaska traffic.

something like that.., i originally scanned the wrong date.
there's always somebody who is a no-show, missed connection..etc. I wouldn't worry too much. make sure you check in exactly at 24hours in-case you are flighting for the last seat.. because the standby list is usually based on time-of check-in

Now that it is less than three weeks away, I see 2 economy seats available, 30+ economy-reserved (?) seats, and 15+ economy plus seats. Does an available seat mean an empty seat? Or could there be lot of reservations with out assigned seating? And if all they have available are economy-reserved or economy plus seats, will I be eligible? Would I have to pay more than the usual $75?
