Travel Insurance after heart attack

In May this year I had a triple-arrest heart attack - I am lucky not to be dead - the paramedics and A & E folks did a sterling job.

I now have a radial stent and am feeling 100% and feel back to where I was.

I have had a couple of UK short holidays - but am now looking to get back to the US for a 2 weeks vacation in October. (previously I did 4 or 5 US business trips a year and had an annual insurance policy)

I realise that the days of my simple online annual travel insurance policy have changed forever - and wonder if FTers here have any experience of trying to obtain travel insurance after heart attack.

I see that BHF have links to specialist providers, but personal recommendations would be good too ( for instance, I am thinking that a 'one trip' policy would be preferable in the first instance over an 'annual' policy so as to limit the insurer's exposure ?)

Thanks

Try http://www.miaonline.co.uk for some reasonable quotes. I am taking my father to the States for a week and they were by far the most reasonable. They specialise in insuring pre existing medical conditions. I think I paid circa £85 for a week including cancer and diabetes cover (he was operated on for cancer 2 years ago but all clear now), as opposed to about £700 that a couple of people were quoting.

Hope this helps.

You might find this article from the Guardian a couple of weeks ago useful - http://www.guardian.co.uk/money/2009...urance-elderly

It is focussed on insurance for the elderly, but most of the options are relevant to pre-existing conditions in general

I am 72 years old and had a Myocardial Infarction in 1992 and have recently been diagnosed with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis. And I plan on spending 4 weeks in the USA in October/November. I got some refusals from Travel Insurers; I got some quotes excluding pre-existing conditions; I got some unaffordable quotes such as £1,800 but, eventually, I found Greenbee. part of John Lewis. They quoted me less than £300. They will give you a quote online at

http://www.greenbee.com/travel-insurance

Take care of yourself and have many more trips.

My 7 year old son had to have major open heart surgery earlier this year. He is now fully recovered and can travel without restriction. For him, the best insurance quotes that we could find were with travelbility:

http://www.getmy.com - not sure whether these guys will cover you but you can do a medical screening online.

For my dad (who only has hypertension) who is 75, they came out the best.

I've not used them for a claim yet.
