I looked at this through the other end of the telescope - London to RSW - and in the end went to TPA.
No direct flights, of course, so you'll have to transfer somewhere. This will probably depend on your favoured carrier as there does not seem to be much price competition (at least from LON).
MIA, MCO and IAD/BWI are worth checking out for lower prices as there's more competition there. NYC and LAX usually have the keenest fares for this reason, though they are of course more remote from RSW.

It all depends wether you wish to fly into LHR (Heathrow) or LGW (Gatwick).

LTU flies nonstop to RSW from Dusseldorf (?). I don't know if a change in Europe is easier than in the states, but it is an option.
