Smile Are "last minute booth" fares from London good deals?

I'm headed to London late March and looking to travel inside Europe for week with my son. We are very flexible. If we walk up to those "last minute" booths, are the deals there good? Can we just listen to "best" deals and say... "sure, let's go to ...."

Thanks

the answer is a definitive maybe. Sometimes they are, sometimes they're not. It depends on the specific destination, your flexibility, and how full the flights are. Generally, you'll get a better deal if you watch fares in advance.

Keep in mind that you may pick a destination only to find it is a more expensive destination when you get there, and you lose all savings due to high lodging costs.

Welcome to Flyertalk GH2SB ^

I've never heard of such booths myself, then again I haven't visited Great Britain yet. We'll give this a try in TravelBuzz where it could get moved again depending on the discussion it generates.

Neither have I - and I live here! What booths do you mean OP?

Welcome to Flyertalk GH2SB
Among the great resources on Flyertalk are the Destination Forums. In answer to your question re: London "last minute booth fares", the appropriate forum, IMO, is the Flyertalk UK Forum.
I am moving this thread to the UK Forum for discussion. Please follow there.
Thanks...

Probably means UK bucket travel shops. Some of those are small

Last minute flights and accommodation can be cheap from these places. But often 3rd rate charter airlines with old aircraft from 2nd tier airports at unsociable times. Know people who have booked these and "missed" the flight back to UK

Perhaps by 'booths' the OP means travel agents in high streets and shopping malls.

Save on shoe leather, simply log on to a specialist website like Skyscanner and create an alert for destinations which interest you

I would tend to use Google Flights - just put in 'LON' as your departure point, select dates and a price limit, and see where you can go to.

Unless you don't know when you're going until the last minute, the best deals (IME) are booked in advance.

The only "last minute booth" things in London I can think of are the ticket sellers in Leicester Sq selling tickets for the West End shows....

If you are looking for a last minute package abroad, then try out this (or similar):
http://www.thomascook.com/holidays/last-minute/

Quality/Price/availability etc varies massively, but you can get some good deals.

I don't think there's much use going into a store (aka a travel agent) and "listening" to the deals of the day. It doesn't really work like that. The only cheap last minute deals will be charter packages. If you want a flight to a city in Europe, you'll almost never find a last minute deal. Cheap tickets on those sorts of flights sell out first, generally months in advance. If you definintely want to go, book now.

I've lived in London for almost 20 years and also have no idea what these "last minute booths" are. ???

For end of March travel, you need to be booking NOW. In fact, you should have booked some time ago to get the best deals. Prices are rising and will continue to rise as the school Easter holidays start at the end of March so this is a busy time for travel and accommodation.

Given that it's been a week and the OP hasn't returned to provide more specifics, maybe it's time to give up on the mystery of the "last minute booth."

Some airports have lots of these types of last minute sales, but I cant think of any in the UK. Hannover has dozens of them. I wonder if the OP has never been to the UK and assumes that all places will be the same as somewhere else where they are a familiar sight?

Oh, I wonder if it's the lastminute.com booths that exist(ed?) in some airport terminals in the UK.

In which case, you won't get any better deal there than on lastminute.com (or any number of similar websites...)

The OP would be better off looking at travel aggregator websites or at local airlines own special offer pages. For example: https://www.britishairways.com/en-gb...s/helloweekend
