Do you mean because you're a GE member, you're subject to random pullouts, or anybody going through customs in general is subject to a random pullout? Somewhat devalues the program if fee was paid, an extensive background check was subjected to, but we are still susceptible to "random" secondary screening. (CBP secondary screening being more serious and time consuming than the cursory secondary screening by the TSA elves)
Also, if you could be guaranteed no secondary screening, it would be an obvious thing that smugglers would start using. |

+1 for the bad LAX experience. The questioning and passport check is stupid and defeats the purpose of GE |
Just applied for this
Question I haven't found yet going through all of these pages. If I am approved and they put the sticker in my current passport which expires 2013 what happens when passport is renewed?
Also - The information is rather slim on eligibility: I have a friend who is a non-resident Canadian (living in Barbados) - No green card for US, just a frequent visitor is he eligible? TIA |

TIA - For your friend, I do not believe that this is possible for the time being, but I may be wrong for Canadians. Cheers, GenevaFlyer |
Minimum Amount of Travel for GE?
I travel out of the country maybe 1-2 times a year, but I'd sure like to not have to wait an hour in immigration when I get back. Does anyone know if Global Entry cares how often (or not) you would use it?
Thanks! edit: 2000th post! |
No, CBP doesn't care how often you travel internationally. There is no minimum requirement. In fact, the topic never came up during my interview.

...as I would have known if I'd read the home page. RTFM, Dave...

When they say "certain international passport holders", what countries does that include?

Cheers, GenevaFlyer All, On a different note, I need to update my passport record for Global Entry. As the enrollment officer is no longer stationed at AMS, I will most likely be in Atlanta. Could someone tell me where exactly the GE office for ATL is located? Thanks and cheers, GenevaFlyer |

When I arrived at IAD from LHR on 23 October, I was the first GE person through customs. I didn't have an X on my GE ticket from the kiosk, but the customs agent apologized and said that her supervisor told her that the next GE person that came through had to undergo secondary screening. That was me. It didn't take more than 5 minutes (I just had carry-on luggage) and was painless. I think that is a reasonable method of ensuring compliance; just because they do a background check on you and approve you for GE doesn't mean that you are without risk -- it just means that they have determined that you are lower-risk. |
Any negatives to Global Entry?
Wondering if anyone has thoughts on this? Or experiences?

I've been a member since November 2009, and have used GE three times this year, with another use of the kiosk in two weeks. So far, nothing bad has happened with the program. A few people have complained that they were pulled aside for secondary even though they were GE members, but GE does not prevent that from happening..
To keep things neat, it really would have been best if you had posted your question in the main GE thread. |
