And the cost associated with is well justified ^

Wasn't worth it today!!!

Got global entry specifically for our flight today connecting at LAX. HUGE crowds descended into the immigration hall ( partly because of our full 380)
only to be told Global Entry was " down today". Still got through in about 30 minutes..... but the lines behind us were ridiculous.:td:

ouch! LAX has got to be one of worst places to be stuck without GE. Sorry to hear that. :(

As a GE member, you are entitled to cut the line at GE locations, including when the machines are down.

Exactly. The perfect time (and really the only time) to invoke that right

The privilege is also useful when the kiosk prints an X-marked slip.

There was an agent standing there who directed us to the general line nearby after telling us the kiosks were down. No mention of going to the head of the line. The kiosks are at the far end of the hall ( line 17 out of 17 lines) so there was not many people at that point down that far and we made it through fairly quickly.... the custom line to exit the hall is where it took most time.

Did you check for a dedicated GE customs queue?

Q: As a Global Entry program member, or NEXUS or SENTRI member with the Global Entry benefit, do I get head of the line privilege at U.S. airports where Global Entry kiosks are not available?
A: The head of the line privilege is only available at the 20 U.S. airports that have Global Entry kiosks. The head of the line privilege is reserved for program members if the kiosks are out of service, get referred to a CBP officer and at the egress/exit points.

Yes...there was a sign. We followed it and it merged with the regular line half way....still leaving us in a pretty long line.

Yes I do, but I didn't show the officer. As I said this was my first time and when she pointed to the quick growing line after saying the kiosks were down, I panicked and did not pursue the matter of priority. There was another person in front of us who also attempted to use GE and when they just willingly got into the line that the agent pointed to... I thought that was the norm.

I guess it's just a question of how feisty you want to be after a long international flight and dealing with CBP folks. They should have made better accommodations, and you, perhaps, could have been more insistent. But what's done is done.

When you walk up to the Global Entry kiosk what do you do? Does the kiosk ask you questions? Do you have to type anything in?
