This past Sunday, the GE kiosk functioned perfectly, but the Customs officer seemed really confused by the little receipt that I presented to him. He said, "what is this?" I said, "it's the GlobalEntry receipt." He asked for my passport, flipped through it, and asked me "what page did he stamp you on?"
I replied, "I didn't get a stamp because I didn't see an officer; I'm a GlobalEntry member and used the kiosk." He flipped a little more and said, "oh...ahh....well....." and he compared the passport numbers on the passport and receipt, which matched. Finally, he said, "okay, you're all set." I glanced over at the other officer sitting 10 feet away, and he gave me a knowing grin and rolled his eyes. :) |

Very good news. Have a trip in September coming back from China and with Global Entry active I should have enough time to take a shower in the United Arrivals area.

With most of my Int. trips going through SFO, this is great news.

I was going to post this update...good news for many. I'm happy to know DFW was added. As a mostly AA passenger GE subscriber, I was avoiding DFW.
Not to stray too far off topic, but the DFW layout of the US Citizen and Non-US Citizen cues for Passport Control are really lame!! Unless you "know" or look up towards the ceiling to see the US Flag over the US Citizen cue and Multi Nation flags for Non US, you could waste a bit of time or get quite confused. |
Although this roll-out ends up being two days too late for my next trip, I've already signed up for the very first appointment at the Boston Logan enrollment center. I suspect it will be interesting becoming the local guinea pig...

Why oh Why can they not expand GE to cover nexus enrolled canadians? I kinda want to move to the netherlands so I can qualify.

Hi matt,
I don't necessarily think it's about living in the Netherlands, but about holding a Dutch passport instead. Being Dutch, not living in the Netherlands, I now have Global Entry. Cheers, GenevaFlyer |

Where was this? While I've only used the system once since getting GE my experience at ORD was flawless. The person just took the little receipt and waved us through.
It was at JFK T8. My first thought was that because JFK has separate FIS areas in each terminal that accepts arriving international flights (from non-preclearance stations), perhaps for some reason the AA terminal sees fewer GE users than, say, T4 which is the main international terminal (IAT). But then I thought about it some more and realized that because T8 is home to AA, while T4 has mostly non-US airlines, and because GE membership is restricted to US Citizens/Residents, one would think that a greater percentage of travelers arriving at T8 would eligible for GE than at T4. But, maybe not. Maybe I'm over-thinking it. I agree about ORD. The Customs officers seem VERY used to GE there, probably because everyone feeds into the same FIS area for all arriving international flights. |
Hooray for the new GE kiosks, expecially Boston. I used my Nexus card for the first time yesterday returning from Canada to the US by car. I suppose I could have used it entering Canada as well but didn't think about it.

I did NEXUS first, and the GE was free. I wonder if you were still charged $50 because you would still need to do the full interview with both US and Canadian CBP with NEXUS no matter what your GE status, whereas when transitioning from NEXUS to GE, there is only an abbreviated interview or no interview at all.
GE is also free if you have SENTRI. I did SENTRI first a few years ago and when I applied for GE, it was free with the same expirations as my SENRTI. Will be trying GE for the 1st time at DFW next week. |

Excuse me for not yet reading the entire thread but I did search it.
Is Global Entry essentially the same as PortPass which was suspended after 9/11? (PortPass was the renamed version of INSPASS.) I loved PortPass, even though the machine at AA JFK didn't often work. If you were at the machine they waived you to the first available inspector. |
