GE/Nexus card strictly required for using Nexus lanes?

I'm a GE member, do I have to possess my GE Card to use the Nexus lanes when entering the US or can I use my passport book or card?

I somehow lost my GE card while on domestic travel (yay for RealID still being delayed) and don't want to pay $25 for replacement. I only had one year left on it anyways and just decided to apply for Nexus now instead of renewing GE.

Yes, you need the card as you use it the same as a Nexus card entering the U.S.. In fact, the only difference between a Nexus card and a Global Entry card are the words "Nexus" and "Global Entry" on them.

Is this a land crossing from Canada to U.S.? You need to have your Global Entry card to use NEXUS lane. If you fly, Global Entry/NEXUS card is required to use NEXUS lane. https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/show...ferrerid=22732

Has anyone been able to request a new card after going from visa to LPR status. Previously, I wasn't eligible for a card. I've got the GE profile updated with green card at airport. I don't see the option to request new or replacement card on my dashboard.
Is there a number we can call to get one?

Does your old visa still show up in your profile in the TTP website? If so, you should have it removed from your GE profile.

No, online profile looks good with only green card details.

I am in the same situation as you. I called CBP and they had to escalate my ticket to the program managers to update my dashboard so a card can be requested. The current resolution time quoted is 3-8 weeks. Do let me know if you manage to find an alternative solution.

I'm considering leaving it as is and as I renew early next year. Hopefully I can get a card then and use it as REAL ID. Did you have to pay a fee to request one?

Global Entry ID Cards: What Purpose

I'm a little puzzled over the purpose of the Global Entry ID cards. It seems that they are of new use to get Pre-Chek, and aren't needed for international returns to the US either. What are they for?

One use - entry into expedited CATSA screening lanes at Canadian airports that have such lanes. The line sorters want to see your Trusted Traveler card. No card, no entry.

The card lets you use the NEXUS lane when driving from Canada to the US. Though most people in that scenario probably have NEXUS cards instead.

That's me, no NEXUS but Global Entry, on a one-off trip to Windsor via DTW. That's when we found out the hard way that Global Entry cards need to be "activated" online once received. I had activated mine but my partner hadn't. The result was a 10-15 minute trip inside to talk to the agents there while the agents and dogs outside thoroughly searched our rental car.

Anyway, besides expedited land re-entry (if you don't make that mistake), the card is also an additional federally issued photo ID. If you ever lose your drivers license and don't want to carry your passport for a domestic trip, you can use the card as ID for TSA.

I merged your question into the relevant thread.

Please refer to the wikipost for a comprehensive list when the Global Entry card is required or useful/helpful.

I'm using the Global Entry ID card for Airline check-in and as ID going through the TSA Pre Check line. No issues on my recent Hawaii trip and various inter-islands flights in Hawaii.
It's easier to replace the Global Entry ID card then a lost California Drivers license.

I though there were reports earlier this year where it was asked to show the Global Entry ID card when using the Global Entry Kiosk.
see link to that article from the TPG

This is covered in the WIKI for this thread. It is primarily used for land crossings and seaports.
