Did you ask at the :office you went to? They would probably know. FWIW, the only time I've ever needed a GE card was to access teh CATSA priority security lines in Canada.

It's also handy at land border crossings and some cruise ports.

The office said it would show up on the website -- like it does for US citizens and LPRs who are already LPRs at the time of applying for GE -- but it did not. I have lodged a query with the site via their form but they have not responded yet. I tried calling by all the options result in the call being dropped.

At GE interview, the officer said my passport has been encoded/updated . . .

After being approved for GE, the officer said my passport has been encoded or updated for Global Entry. What was done to my passport? I'm guessing there's a chip in the passport and now that chip says I'm a Global Entry member? I don't think anything was written or inserted to my passport. Since my passport has been updated, does this mean I don't need to carry the Global Entry card when I travel internationally?

Your passport is linked to Global Entry, not sure if anything is encoded in your passport chip.

It is advisable to carry your Global Entry card. https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/show...ferrerid=22732

The only use I've ever had for my GE cards when it comes to using the GE kiosks at US airports of entry has been when showing the cards meant I could cut the line (or cut pass the crowd) in order to access the GE kiosks sooner than would otherwise be the case. Otherwise for air travel the only other use I've had for my GE card is to get priority security screening at Canadian airports or as ID for use with TSA employees doing ID checks. Beside that, the GE cards are as good as useless for me at US airports and aren't required to use the GE kiosks.

About the "encoded or updated" thing, that's about confirming and electronically authorizing your passport -- with its number -- to tie it to your identity for using the GE kiosks with a final approval status for GE membership.

I have used GE kiosks while entering the US even on US passports with RFIDs chips that are either non-functional or otherwise not reliably working at times.

I thought the GE card was required in Canadian airports to access the GE kiosk area. At least the CBSA staff always wanted to see my GE card the three times I have passed through YYZ on the way back the to US.

It is ... see the p:ost you quoted where it says, "...the only other use I've had for my GE card is to get priority security screening at Canadian airports..."

GE Card can also be used to enter the US from Canada/Mexico by land.

So GE Card is more useful than the Passport Card. It can do everything a Passport Card can do, and more.

Not exactly. The USCIS has not updated the I-9 acceptable document list for employer to verify on your first day of work to include any TTP cards. And as mentioned upthread, CBSA officers have had trouble accepting it as a proof of US citizenship which should suffice when entering Canada; their excuse being "this isn't NEXUS so we don't have it in our database". Also a US passport card is plainly a proof of US citizenship, especially outside of border/TSA domains, but a GE card will demand careful inspection.

GE card cannot be used to enter Canada or Mexico, only the US. The passport card can be used to enter Canada or Mexico.

The wiki already contains where/how GE card can be used. Don't think that has changed since the time it last updated.

Here's another use for the GE Card:

Three times in the last two years I've been SSSSed on a TATL departing Europe. This also means I lost PreCheck for my connecting US flight. However, you can go to an airline counter and ask them to delete your Trusted Traveler number, reenter it, then reprint your BP and it'll usually print out with PreCheck on it. I don't have my TT number memorized so I read it off the card when this happens.

Do I actually need my global entry card with me DXB —> DFW

Do I actually need my physical global entry card with me when I return to Dallas from Dubai? I believe in 2020 when I returned from Vienna it was I just showed my passport. I don’t recall needing to show my global entry card to go through global entry in the US… Is this correct or was that just an usual situation?
