Your KTN is the reference number printed on the appointment letter and the agent will probably point that out at the interview. GE is immediate upon approval and requires no documentation, Pre-Check may take a short time (I don't know how long) to filter through.

It may well have been a coincidence, but when the approval came through right after the interview I added my KTN to the reservation for the next day's flight, and then checked in online, PreCheck included with the boarding pass.

Bear in mind that you need to have your KTN linked to specific flights booked before approval, but flown after. Adding the number to your airline profile only works for future flights booked thereafter; airlines don't add the number (sweep) retroactively themselves.

Card is definitely required when departing from YYZ terminal 1. No access to CATSA priority security lines (even when flying in paid business class) *or* Global Entry kiosk access without. (And don't ask why; you will be threatened with having your GE status revoked.)

I'm confused -- you need to show your card to a human before they let you proceed to a kiosk, or does the kiosk somehow need you to use your card instead of just your passport? I've always just walked up to a kiosk and put in my passport.

You have to show your card to an airport contractor to access the CATSA security line that leads to the GE kiosks.

Yeah, they were a lot cooler about this at YUL one time when I forgot my Global Entry card. I told them I had Global Entry card and they were apologetic that I could not go through the Trusted Traveler screening lane but once I cleared the checkpoint I could walk over to the kiosks.

Way more strict at YYZ T1. They will almost always not let you approach the kiosk without presentation of the GE card (and often matching passport + BP).

I just used the Global Entry kiosk at YUL without being asked to show a card. I came from the regular screening line.

It has been reported YYZ T1 is arranged in a way such that if you don't show your Trusted Traveler card (and take the CATSA Trusted Traveler screening lane) you would end up in an area post security without access to GE kiosk. I was at YYZ T1 recently. While I wasn't really paying attention to it, I believe if you took regular screening, the GE kiosk would be behind belt barriers (Tensabarrier). I suppose you could just crawl under them to get to the kiosks.

YUL does not have that restriction. GE kiosk accessible post security regardless of how you got there with the exception **not 100% sure*** international-to-US PreClearance airside transit. I believe those passengers end up on the other side of the wall where the GE kiosks are located.

I don't have a GE card; I do have a NEXUS card. Will that work where they require GE cards? (In Canada, it obviously works.)

Returning from AMS the GE machine just scanned my passport and fingerprints.

In the U.S., you do not need a Global Entry/NEXUS card in order to use a Global Entry kiosk. In a rare occasion in the U.S., you may be asked to show your Global Entry/NEXUS card in order to use a Global Entry kiosk.

Pre-clearance = land crossing

I received a response to the complaint I filed with CPB about being denied access to the GE kiosks at YYZ. The response was basically cut-and-paste, but they did highlight the fact that GE cards are used at land crossings.

Yeah, when I went through YYZ last month, the Canadian border police agent guarding the entry to the Trusted Traveler line simply waved me through. A security employee manning another podium blocked me about halfway before the actual screening area and demanded I show the GE card.

YVR doesn't seem to have this arrangement though, when I flew through there earlier this year. I'm wondering if it's a YYZ-specific thing? Confusing, but fortunately I had the card on me.

You have to show your NEXUS/Global Entry card in order to use CATSA Trusted Traveler screening lane, similar to TSA Pre Check lane.

Yesterday I flew YHZ-EWR and there wasn't anybody guarding the GE kiosks. Maybe because it was 5 am and we were the only flight departing...

Sure. What I'm getting at is the behavior is inconsistent with what CBP says and with other airports -- i.e. GE/NEXUS card is used for land crossings, and not needed for air crossings. In the case of YYZ, you can't reach the GE kiosks without going through the CATSA lane.

Also, I've never had to present my GE card to enter a TSA PreCheck lane; as I understand it, showing your GE card doesn't give you PreCheck -- it has to be printed on the pass, no?
