You don't need the card to enter at a US airport.... non US nationals don't get a card at alland we us GE
|
I wouldn't say the card is NOT needed for any purpose. It is needed if you wish to use NEXUS/SENTRI lanes on land crossing with Canada/Mexico.
|
I do beleive that the physical GE card is just a back up in case the kiosks are not working. I've never used my card before. Always have it on hand just ins case. So says a GE agent..

When crossing IN to the US FROM Canada in the NEXUS lane. Don't try to use it the other way as Canada does not accept a GE card for entry.
But thanks for pointing that out as it reminds me last summer after arriving at CBSA immigration hall at YUL. Immigration hall was packed. I'm clearing NEXUS but overheard a passenger trying to negotiate with a kiosk "lounge dragon" to let him try to use his GE card at the NEXUS kiosk despite her informing him that he needs NEXUS card. |

How do you get a renewed card when you renew GE?

I was headed back to the US at YVR yesterday and started through the GE pathway into security screening (which is ahead of immigration) and was told I had to have my GE card to access Pre-Check (or whatever it is called there). Since I didn't have the card with me, I had to go through regular screening. Then I could access a GE line for immigration. The Wiki at the top of this thread is correct. Should have read it before! Carry the card, especially when traveling to Canada.

I put my GE card with my passport so when I'm traveling outside US I have it. Turned out to be worthwhile when we came into Port Everglades (Ft Lauderdale port) on a cruise ship and they had a GE lane. No kiosks but expedited clearance by showing a GE card and passport.

It is still the same one year later. Good thing I bought our cards. They have one lane for GE (no kiosks just one border agent processing) but almost no one was in it and a lady guarding the entrance. You have to have the card to get past her. But she only wants to see 1 card even though we all have our cards in the group. So theoretically you could take others without GE to that lane. I looked back at the general lines that seems to go on forever... so happy I remember to bring the cards.

On day 1 on having GE, I have always had the card with me. Even during my 1st interview I was told to carry it.

I recommend you carry the card. A relative arrived at ATL and found the GE kiosk printer jammed. No technician was available. He walked to an immigration officer at the counter.
Officer: "Do you have your GE card?" Him: "No." Officer: "Then how do I know you're GE?" |

I wonder what NEXUS-GE folks do. My understanding is that you can't have two TT cards, so if you have GE with NEXUS, you only have a NEXUS card.
|
You can be in physical possession of both GE and NEXUS cards but only one should be active.
