Must I obtain PreCheck separately from GE?
Spouse and I have Global Entry. I cannot find definitively that having GE and entering the trusted traveler ID when booking will ensure that PreCheck will be provided (if available at the particular airport).
Can anyone provide insight?
Thanks!

this page http://www.cbp.gov/travel/trusted-tr...y/tsa-precheck indicates that GE members "are eligible to participate in TSA PreCheck". I know enough about government bureaucracy to be skeptical enough to think that "eligible to participate" is not the same as "is entitled to participate in the PreCheck program", meaning that there may be more hoops to jump through.

If you applied, went through all the hoops, and were approved for GE then you have PreCheck as an added feature. You need to enter the GE PassID on the back of your GE card as your Known Traveler Number (KTN) in your airline passenger profiles. Once you do that you should start getting PreCheck.

Technically, nothing will "ensure that PreCheck will be provided" as the TSA can always just decide not to give it to you even with your KTN and other info provided in advance.
That said, I am batting 1.000 on Pre-eligible itineraries since getting NEXUS across three airlines (DL, UA, and B6) even though I only have status on DL.

PreCheck is not a right. It's a program you pay to participate in. GE lets you participate in the program without any additional money or action beyond entering your KTN and info properly. Most of us get PreCheck regularly but it's not a 100% situation no matter how you enroll.
The best deal is Nexus if you qualify and can get to a Nexus enrollment center.
GE is next best followed by paying TSA for PreCheck.

I'm also 100% on getting pre-check after entering my global entry KTN on the airline websites, and without a separate pre-check program application. In fact, that's the reason I got GE; I haven't traveled internationally since getting it.
One caveat - make sure that the name on the airline account and on the ticket exactly match what you have on your global entry. From anecdotes here, if you're Robert A Miller on one and Robert Alan Miller on the other, you probably won't get the pre-check.

Interesting note, though; I just checked the list on the TSA website, and it now includes OneJet (J1) and WestJet (WS). The latter is the second foreign carrier to participate after Air Canada.

OP - A lot of hair-splitting in many posts above. The bottom line is that if you have GE, there is nothing more you need to do beyond entering your KTN in your passenger profiles. This can be done as to each ticket or, if you are a member of a carrier's FFP, by entering your KTN in your FFP program profile.
You will be eligible for pre-check on any flight where your operating carrier participates in pre-check. Whether you are selected is random, but as others note ought to be pretty close to 100%.

There is no guarantee. If a passenger is to obtain BP at the airport, don't make any assumptions. It is better to be early than to miss the flight.
