One of the most visited sights in Dublin is Trinity College.

The main magnets are the Book of Kells and the library. You should buy timed tickets for these, which can be done easily online.
You are not allowed to take photos of the Book of Kells, it is presented separately in a room. Only one page is open at a time, the one during our visit was rather unspectacular.
The library is very well known, but it was not only totally overcrowded, it was also being renovated. Therefore, only a few shelves have books. Besides a few books, the well-known Brian Boru's harp is also on display.

Of your recent trips, I feel like DUB is really right at the bottom. Save for that Tenerife one in that red hotel .

I don't really see either as negative. Sure, the Abama had its shortcomings, but it also had its good points. Compared to many other hotels, it was relatively cheap. The Merrion wasn't really bad either, I've had much more negative experiences.
As for the city, I liked Dublin, and the restaurants (spoiler!) were really interesting. I wouldn't want to miss Tenerife either.

From the outdoor pictures, I note that even in Ireland, you seem to miss out on bad weather. Compared to my trips, looks like the sun shines wherever you go!

Weather was fine. With one exception in the evening (when I was in the hotel) there was no real rain. Very lucky, as it rained cats and dogs the days before with heavy damages near Dublin.

Well, the 1550 € were the internet-price. With the Harper-auction it was 2675 $ for 4 nights with breakfast which was a great deal, but in my eyes also the fair value. At 1550 € + breakfast I wouldn't be happy.

Afterwards we wanted to visit St. Ann's church. However, it turned out to be a somewhat longer visit. At the entrance they asked for 10 €, we had just bought tickets for a lunchtime concert. A professional pianist (Adam Parrish) played for an audience of 18. A nice concert, too bad there were so few people.

The Archaeological Museum is housed in a beautiful building.




The collection is not large, but the bog bodies and gold finds in particular are of outstanding importance. There is also a very small Egyptian section.

Patrick Guilbaud's restaurant is located in the Merrion. It has been awarded 2 Michelin stars for many years. Even as a hotel guest, it was not easy to get a table.
The start of the evening was suboptimal. We waited with a larger group of other guests in front of the restaurant until one by one we were picked up. That was somehow undignified, it could have been organised much better.
When you enter, you first go through a bar (not the hotel bar). We were offered to have a drink there, but like all the guests we declined. I have the feeling that these bars often have no real function and are only sparsely used.
The restaurant itself is nicely decorated, with a very high ceiling. I don't have any photos of the dining room. The tables had a nice decoration.

Is there no water in Ireland or why do they import it from Italy?

We opted for the 8-course Tasting Menu, which is designed as a surprise menu.

A good and fresh dish to start with.

Also delicious and interesting.

Lobster is always good and this one was also very good.
Wild Turbot Steamed over Vadouvan, Delicate Fennel, Essential Lemon Oil


I am a big fan of turbot and this one tasted very good too. The mashed potatoes served with it were of a rare good quality, very soft.
Next came a cheese course. The trolley was interesting, but there were only 3 types per person. The presentation was rather modest, they didn't put much effort into it. Only one of the photos was successful, but the other plate didn't look much different.

Patrick Guilbaud, who is no longer behind the cooker himself, came around and asked how things were going. Always a good thing.
The food was very good. I personally found the Chapter One a tad better, GF preferred the Patrick Guilbaud. Let's agree on a draw.

Finally. I was waiting for the food porn section of the offerendum trip report . But, where were the scallops?

I think I ate them all earlier this year. At times it seriously worked out I had a scallop course at dinner like every other day for a week....

Christ Church dates back to the 11th century and was formerly the seat of Catholic archbishops, now Anglican.


The visit costs a hefty entrance fee. Later we found out that there is a combination ticket with the neighbouring Viking Museum. No one in the church tells you that, but it cost us a few more euros.
The church itself is quite pretty, but not comparable to the big European churches.






The crypt is one of the largest in Ireland and houses a number of treasures including a copy of the Magna Carta.





The most famous exhibit, however, is the mummies of a cat and a rat found in an organ pipe.

Right next to Christ Church Cathedral is Dublina, a museum about Vikings.

The tickets cost €15 per person. The exhibition mainly featured figurines, with a few historical artefacts. Absolutely not worth 15 €, a weak museum from my point of view.




With the ticket you could also climb the tower, at least the view was quite nice.










You could have saved yourself the visit, I don't recommend it.
