Gelato: Papilla Ravenna

Not really a surprise we had a gelato in Ravenna. It was Papilla and gelato was pretty good.

Ravenna: Mausoleum of Theoderic

The Mausoleum of Theoderic is a little bit out of the center but has good parking facilities. Itīs a round building, today located in a park.

Chapel room (upstairs) with a circular porphyry stone which some believe is the sarcophagus of Theoderic, but most propably itīs not.

The grave chamber downstairs.

Ravenna: Sant’Apollinare in Classe

Sant’Apollinare in Classe is located outside the centre and you can reach it in around 15 minutes by car. Again mosaics and some (empty) sarcophagi.

While I appreciate the skill involved with painting and sculpture, mosaics are a true art form. Thanks again for sharing this journey!

Bologna: Museo Civico Archeologico

Back to Bologna I went to the archaeological museum. There are huge renovations going on at the moment so not all parts of the collection are open. Open was the Egyptian and the pre-historic part.

Dinner: I Portici Restaurant Bologna

On our last evening in Bologna we had dinner at I Portici Restaurant, the only restaurant in Bologna which was awarded with a Michelin star.
The restaurant is located at I Portici hotel, a relative stylish 4 star hotel. The restaurant is located at the former Eden Theater, an ancient chantant café.

The mocktail was above average and the best during our vacation.

Little bites and bread

We took the "into the blue" menu.

Another mocktail

Interesting petit fours

I was very pleased with our meal. The dishes were creative and all of very good quality. For me a restaurant at the upper edge of 1 star restaurants.

I am amazed by your stamina for looking at old stuff - I would have given up after the second cathedral. Those gelato shops on the other hand ... .

Padua: Basilika Santa Giustina

In the morning we drove to Padua. Unfortunately weather was lousy. We arrived at Prato della Valle which seems to be a beautiful place but in the heavy rain it was not such inviting.

The basilica:

The church is huge.

Choir with the martyrdom of Saint Justine by Veronese

Chapel of La Pieta

Chapel to Blessed Arnaud Cataneo

The corridor of the martyrs

The sanctuary of Prosdocimus

Tomb of Saint Matthias

Padua: Basilica Saintī Antonio

Saintī Antonio is an impressive church with the grave of Antonio and many artworks. Unfortunately itīs forbidden to take pictures inside and many monks inforce it. So you must live with one rainy picture from outside.
