LHR-HKG-MEL on VS/AN in J
Some brief thoughts:
LHR-HKG 28 June VS200
Check-in agent attempted to charge me £319 for excess luggage (not Virgin charging me you understand but 'we have to claim this on behalf of Ansett'!!) + fire alarm went off at Heathrow during my massage!
Flight notable only for the fact that we were lucky enough to have the ‘Maiden Toulouse’ (an A340) for the flight which was equipped with the new beds. The front seats in each cabin are superior in terms of space to sleep.
HKG-MEL 29 June AN876
Delay in HKG for two hours due to brake problems. J cabin arranged 1+2+2, 50 (maybe 55 inch?) pitch. Good seat recline but poor leg rests which move only slightly up from the vertical. No games.
Service and food were excellent however, complete with ‘airchef’ to assist with meals.
Poor amenities kit containing only socks, an eyeshade and a stick of sunblock.
On arrival in MEL I noticed that bags had been retagged with Ansett’s own ‘Absolute Priority’ labels… not sure how, or if, these are different in effectiveness from Star Alliance priority tags only to say that my bags were on the reclaim as soon as I had cleared immigration (which was about five minutes after disembarkation).

I don't believe it! They've put the absolutely even on priority tags!
'Absolute Priority'
LOL
In case you didn't realise LHR/MEL/EuropeFF, AN has had an ad campaign with absolutely as their catchphrase. It really cracks me up that!

Clement

That Absolutely phrase is cropping up a lot more often I seem to notice nowadays.
The Ansett B763 has 55" seat pitch in Business Class.
The amenities kit just doesn't sound right, compared to what I read in the company paper a few months back. You get more in the Economy Class amenities kit, than the one you mentioned.
Cheers,
Justin

I am flying its J class from SYD to HKG soon and want to find out more about its meal service. Can you elaborate a bit?
