I meet the 'toad (sort of) in MCO

The "sort of" refers to my sobriety at the time, or more specifically, my lack thereof.

I talked about the outbound portion in a UA thread. I got to Orlando and checked into the Hampton Inn Convention Center (I would comment on the hotel, but that was pretty much the last I saw of it), did my presentation then made my way to the Rennisance to meet my Oracle friend (former almost-client at last job...Beckles calls her rat-girl) who happened to be in town for some techno-geek fest. Being no dummy, I took the opportunity to hang out with these folks to fish for leads on stock-option laden job leads

While I found prescious few of those, at the reception for the trade show I did manage to find lots of Becks. A group of Oracle and EMC employees and I decided to go to City Walk rather than Pleasure Island. At Margaritaville, I told the hostess that I was a guest at the portafina, and that seems to have greased the skids (as I had been told it would). Our party of 10 only had to wait about 1/2 hour...or two red stripes.

We finally sat and ate around, I dunno maybe 9 or so? Hammertoad arrived at some point after repeated cell-to-cell phone calls where I did not hear much of what was said due to the volume in the restaurant. I was, putting it delicately, tanked at that point.

One lady in the group REALLY wanted to go to pleasure island, but with the 'toads help we convinced her to go to Pat O'Briens right next door instead. While rat-girl had flashbacks, we talked and tried to touch the water-fire. Great to meet HammerToad and nice to know someone in MCO!

The toad hopped back to his 'pad' and we stubled over to the groove-something dance club. It was loud. That's pretty much all I remember. I shared a cab back to the Renisance where I had left my overnight bag and computer and, needless to say, never made it back to the Hampton Inn before leaving for the airport at 5AM to catch my 7AM flight. The check-in lady forgot to take my cert (or perhaps she was taking pity on me). As i sat on the plane, it occured to me to call the Hampton Inn and check out by phone...what a waste of a hotel room! I slept for the flight home. Straight to the office to fake my way through a staff meeting and now I am considering taking a nap under my desk a la George Costanza.

The wages of sin...

You never can tell what will transpire when you drink with those crazy Oracle folks.

It was truly a pleasure (ok, I'm being gracious ) meeting the esteemed lord high holder of the nutz! I was still pretty shelled from getting up in the middle of the night (5am) to take mrs 'toad to the aeroport; so I wasnt' quite up to the all-nighter that was planned. I was thankful that I only had to drive as far as City Walk (10-15 miles closer) - and did not have to pay $20 for the pleasure of buying $5 beers!

We shall meet again, kokonutz!

I'm curious -- did your shoe dry out in time for the flight? (Matt was standing rilly rilly close to said fountain).

Cheers,

'toad

Rest assured that I was soaked by the end of the evening...but I suspect that had more to do with having drinks thrown in my face by the lovely women of Oracle than anything else

You take that back, Newself!!! You clearly weren't paying attention:

1) At no time did I pass out in an awkward place and position. In fact, I pretty much stayed up all night.

2) I didn't take a single shot of anything. I'm pretty much a hops and barley or grapes kinda guy.

3) I managed to not lose my cell phone, my glasses or "other things."

4) I wasn't able to fool a single person into thinking I am a connisuer or fine wines.

5) You could fit two Auh2os in my pants...one in each leg.

Saying I'm an east-coast Auh2o is like saying Chris Farley is an east coast Chris Rock...

KOKO, all is true about what you wrote about yourself except one thing.

LEt me quote: "Help me Catman! I lost my cell phone! HELP ME! HELP ME! HELP ME! Goodbye!"

(That was so funny I wrote that down in my diary -- so watch what you say or do Flyertalkers... I take notes! )

You left your cell on my couch in my suite which became a den of stuff that's staying in my diary!!

But that's ok. I lost my cell on a NJ Transit Train.

I was sober though.

Koko,

You are right, at least you would recognize Hunnybear if she yelled hi to you!
