Things to do in Philly

Well, it doesn't look like there are any bonuses for travel to Philly from Charlotte, so I'll just have to have a good time when I'm there.

I'll have a full day to do 'stuff.' Anyone have any suggestions? Any restaraunt recommendations out there? I'll be staying at the downtown Marriott, unless there is somewhere better to stay (Marquis member of Marriott).

Thank you!

Marriott is fine here as long as it's not totally full due to "conventioneers". I emailed you an article I just got and read early this morning. Enjoy! I'll be there later this week as well.

There is a really cool/gross museum at 22nd and about Chestnut - a cab ride from where you are - called the Mutter (with an umlat (sp?) over the "u" - which is in the basement of the college of physicians - medical oddities - 100,000s of items that people have swallowed, a plaster cast of the liver of the original Siamese twins, and other weird stuff.

For the more pedestrian tastes - there is a tour of City Hall (the big wedding cake-shaped building in the center of downtown) every day at about noon, the historic district - Ben Franklin, Betsey Ross, Liberty Bell - is within walking distance of your hotel. Enjoy!!

Reading Market, across the street from the Marriott, is a treat. It's a huge working/tourist market, something like order of Pike St. in Seattle. Great people watching. FlyerTalk tie-in: Catman ate his first real Philly cheese steak there.

And to experience a 'real' Philly cheesesteak, go to Pat's or Geno's in South Philly, or Jim's on South Street.

At the lower end of South St., on Headhouse Square, is a traditional British pub, The Dickens Inn. Michael, the owner is a great host and the place is a lot of fun, especially if you play darts. They also have great Fish & Chips there.
