Eastern Orient Express

Just wondering if anyone has taken this trip between bangkok and Singapore (or vice versa)? I have an opportunity to try it out when I am in Singapore and wonder if it is worth the cost ($1350).

Thumbs up

I did this trip from Bangkok to Singapore in August 2005. It really is a great experience. The service, food and atmosphere is really First Class. I was warned prior to taking the trip that sleeping can be somewhat challenging due to the movement of the train, however, took a sleeping pill and had no problem at all! You can mingle easily with fellow passengers in the Bar compartment or Observation Deck. In the evening, there is entertainment in the Bar area. Let me know if you need any further information. Enjoy!

Bangkok Train

If you want to save a TON of money and use it along the way, i receommend the following:

http://www.seat61.com/Malaysia.htm

One tenth the cost, good quality and a really nice way to experience Malaysia and Thailand. Two scheduled stops / transfers along the way so you can enjoy.

BTW, mjcasta, I have to chime in that seat61.com is one of the coolest and most useful sites I have been referred to in recent months. Someone (was it you?) mentioned it in another thread on this forum and I've spent quite a few hours concocting ideas! Few websites have given me that faraway look in the eye as much as this one. Brings out the Michael Palin in me!

Seat61

I stumbled into this site a few years back and it has really opened my eyes to travel worldwide. All the info needed in one site and mostly a single page.

Glad to pass it aong and hope you will pass it along as well
