LAX-HNL-LAX
I just came back on UA #52 HNL-LAX old 747-100 which is 2 cycles from being retired.We took offf at 1PM HST and after 12 minutes in the air we returned due to fire on board.We landed on a shorter runway with all our fuel.So the plane was inspected and 3 and a half hours later we were back up in the air.
United was great SAFETY was their number 1 prority.
Hats off to UA.

Glad to hear all is well and you made it back safe and sound!

Lets hope they dump all their old 747s and replace them with brand new 777s!

Yikes! "Fire On Board" is probably one of the scariest phrases you can hear. Glad you landed high and dry!

Someone I know was on board. She said the first and business class pax could smell the smoke but not the coach pax.

Could it be that all coach passengers had bathed that day? (Sorry, couldn't let that one pass) Fortunately UA did the right thing and we can joke about semantics...
