YYC-YEG-YYC

Flew Calgary-Edmonton-Calgary today in Executive Class on AC on DC-9s. Flight up to YEG was a virtual ghost flight (I was only one in front section and there were 9 other passengers in the rear).

Disappointed in Maple Leaf lounge -- looks like they are not putting out any food on Saturday mornings, in the week they usually have French pastries, bagels, cream cheese, yogurt, jugs of grapefruit and orange juice etc.

Crew were very attentive on both flights and even addressed me by name as I was leaving the flight (I haven't been in a plane for almost 3 months!)

Maple Leaf lounge in Edmonton was a bit better stocked for the return, including veggies, cheese and crackers as well as some kind of frozen popsicle treat that I didn't bother trying. More people on the plane but still pretty empty.

Do it all again on Monday and then again on Tuesday. Flying season is back ! (and that is an OK thing)

Flew Calgary-Edmonton-Calgary Monday and Tuesday up and down once in Executive Class on AC on DC-9s and up and down once on Dash 8s.

Flights were mostly empty again except for flight (4:00 pm) back when our DC9 went mechanical and they cancelled the flight (which also meant all DC9 flights for the rest of the day). The DASH 8s are OK but no good for upgrades.

I have quite a few Super Elite upgrades to get rid of so I have been trying my best to give them to friends and acquaintances and even using them on short hop flights like YEG-YYC.

The flight cancellation had a lot of travellers concerned as most were connecting through YYC to FRA. When they offloaded all the FRA bound passengers first I don't think there was more than a couple of people left on board the DC9. I was wondering if they cancelled due to a lack of passengers?

Anyway, there were lots of people bumped from the next (4:30) flight to make way for the FRA passengers and there was no room for me or several people already confirmed on the 4:30 flight. I thought it would make the following flight (5:30) full so I volunteered but no luck--the flight was full but no one was left at the gate. Too bad, I could have worked in the Maple Leaf lounge and caught a later flight. So I got no compensation--wonder if AC will do some automatic credit or if I should write?

At least the Calgary Maple Leaf lounge had French pastries, cereal etc. for breakfast (unlike the weekend where there was nothing).

This was also the first time I had flown standby for a later flight in the day after missing an earlier flight. There didn't seem to be any problem and there is no fee charged. I was concerned that they might cancel my ticket as it was the originating flight. I often fly standby for earlier flights than those I am booked on.

Got double miles for my troubles with the cancelled flight. Not great but better than nothing.

Flew down to Calgary on AC Saturday afternoon at 4 pm. Pretty empty DC9 in both classes, as you experienced. Maple Leaf Lounge had meagre supply of ice cream bars in Edmonton (no Hagen Daz, as advertised!) and plenty of cheese. Flew back Monday at 5:15 on a full DC9. Calgary MLL had lots of Hagen Daz bars, and Guiness in the cooler. The later weekday flight is used to feed connections from London and Frankfurt up to Edmonton I suspect, and is always full.

You must have been on the same plane as me on Saturday (hopefully I wasn't being obnoxious or picking my nose)--we are going to have to do a mini FT get together in Edmonton or Calgary.
