One Live TR With Pics – Two Different Perspectives on AMS–HNL
Just announced ATC weather delay via PA of 90 mins.
They are trying to find out if they are going to deboard us or not. Hope not as deboarding means little chance of getting away earlier than anticipated.
We have plenty of time in JFK but this eats into the planned tour of lounges: amuse Bouche in Flounge, quick pop into pre flight dining as VFR has not been, showers and then full dinner in CCR.

If this weather irrop continues and my bag is now "missing" as its gate checked, not sure which "side" to blame.

Mini rant alert!
The cabin crew are making a real meal out of this delay. Gate agent told them it was their decision whether to deplane or not.
They are loudly telling everyone who is boarding that once boarded, pax will have to sit in their seats, there's no service and no "revolving door back off and on". Also telling pax that there's food to buy in the terminal and that it's a 4.5 hour flight once we are on our way - almost as if to deter people from coming on.
So we now have most pax on board but some not. So little chance of being able to get an earlier slot.
They are also loudly lamenting that after an hour, they will have to serve water under passenger rights.
Apparently it's really warm in the Y cabin and pax are starting to try to get off.
It's almost as if this is their first weather delay.

The crew is now "selling" getting off the plane - stretch your legs, get food, drink and some air.
Even though gate agent just said that reboarding would start again in 17 mins from now.
Much debate between the cabin crew on whether crew should create list of pax who have left or whether gate will scan BPs, unboard and board again. Also mentioned various rules and requirements on taking luggage and what happens with checked luggage if people don't come back.
Latest rule now is that if you get off, no reboarding until gate boards.

However, thanks to the joint OPs for an illuminating thread which will be re-read again and again over the next month, before we both hit the Pacific for the first time.

Billingham is on our flight (and was on the HNL PHX as well). I did notice an FT looking like pax who was taking pics. Small world and triple of "relatively random" FT meets on this trip completed.
Captain just announced he's going to reboard everyone at 10.30 and head to a spot near the runway hoping for ATC clearance.

I nearly had a DKWIAM moment as Emerald traveling in F with a HBO bag that had made it on all other flights so far and was an inch outside of their thingy, but the gate dragon had a facial expression that screamed "I am looking for a fight and honey, you might be the lucky one getting it" so a deep breath and the serenity prayer saw me handing over the bag for gate checking (that was her concession when she realized I was in F (rather than real hold checking)).

Tailwinds going east vs. headwinds going west. Makes a big difference.

All boarded again. Let's hope (not least for Billinghamn's sake) that we get airborne asap.
