This is fantastic guys, thank you! I so want to do one of these - the craving started after reading filthymonkey and rxfleming's trip a few months ago. I don't know any geeks who would entertain my suggestion though! Keep enjoying, looking forward to the rest.

Hilton LAX was good / fine. I have stayed there before and we again decided to "go wild" and SPLASH out in true style. So we had requested an upgrade to a corner room for $11 which cleared and due to my Diamond, they also upgraded us to an Executive Floor (top floor, floor 17).
Room was big, beds comfy, shower fine. TBH, we were a tad exhausted (I think meeting Filthy on the beach in MIA does that) so a few mins after arrival, it was lights out (11pm ish) and slept soundly until the alarm at 5.30am.
Shuttle to hotel arrived 3 mins after we got out of arrivals and shuttle to LAX waited for us this morning so all in all very smooth.
Last time I stayed there, I used the pool as well. Small ish but ok. a few hot tubs. And I used the executive lounge which is nothing special though gives nice views over LAX if your rooms doesn't give those.

so as mentioned, MIA immigration was a breeze. glad they finally got that sorted as it was a disgrace last time.
We jumped into an Uber to meet Filthy Monkey and Ms Monkey on South Beach.
Filthy might post a few more pics (there were some large margarita glasses, some beach action and a few car shots) but here's the official FT Mini DO November Miami South Beach photo:

we had 4K and 5K which was great. Clearly the middle seats would have been good as travelling together but much better to have windows (though the partner seat for lunch was a bit tight on the shoulders to be honest).

Good to hear the Shuttle is efficient, though ... but then they usually are with the "Big Boys"

We are safely in the embassy suites and have already been for a dip in the Pacific and a spin in the mustang.
Pics and report of the flight from LAX to HNL on AA 763 to follow.

Aloha from Hawaii.
We've been able to get online from the hotel's computers (somehow doing pics via photobucket on the iPads isn't working) so here's an update (and a lot of pics from both us of - VFR has some catching up to do).
though not directly related to our trip, I admit I am more than a bit of a plane geek so here's a few plane shots whilst we taxied around LAX before take-off for HNL:
