Last lunch @ Mokkoku-Tei 1
Our last lunch in Kumamoto was at Mokkoku-Tei. Mokkoku is a tree belongs to camellia family.
When the original owner, Mizuno, decided to sell this 100 years old house, two developers came up with completely opposite idea. Demolish the house and build apartment building, or turned into a restaurant. I am very glad that owner opted the latter suggestion.
I know, I said no more sightseeing photos, but allow me to guide you for this beautiful house/restaurant first.
Let’s begin with foyer.

Last lunch @ Mokkoku-Tei 3
Inside the house (dinning area)
Pardon about the heater as it was really cold day.
Backyard
Patio.
And...
Stewed fish head
Hamburg steak
Considering the quality and quantity of the food, plus atmosphere itself, I must say 1,980 yen was very cheap.
Well, the last photos are: eat cheap

Eat cheap
As we had a wonderful lunch, and had to leave quite early in the morning, I decided not to dine out. What to do? I went to department store’s grocery section after 6:00 pm, and grabbed heavily discounted ready to eat packs.
How much was the damage? I spent just below 1,500 yen for all.
I know they did not appear pretty, but very practical, I think.
Some close up
Kibinago (round herring family fish)
King fish
Bream & umeboshi (salted plum) roll
This is it!!
Thank you all for reading my TR. Hope you had some fun
Cheers,

Amazing. You picked it up from the pic!!
Your comment reminds me of funny conversation I had at Angelo.
I asked for a bottle of red. Immediately a wife of chef approached our table with very concerned face and said "I regret to tell you that the wine you ordered was only available with room temperature." I smiled back to her saying "Perfect. Just bring it on, please." She said, "Oh, I meant the wine was not chilled enough..."
For some reason, quite a few Japanese believe that red wine should be chilled well before serving They can be a funny people.

I am planning my first trip to Japan next week. Thank you for so graciously taking so much time and effort to post your lovely photos and trip report. It's nice after people get good advice/suggestions on forums when they come back and post. Few do so as thoroughly as you. Very kind.
