How to fly Upper deck?
I'm planning a trip to LAX next winter just as I did this year and I'm looking forward to again flying on the mighty 747-400.
However, this time I'd prefer to fly on the upper deck. Yes, I know some say they prefer it down in the front of the lower deck as it's supposedly very quiet, but this time I'd love to go up there.
Anyway, I plan on flying either LH from FRA or BA from LHR - what are my options to fly on the upper deck? No, I don't have any preferred status on either airline. Could this be done at all without having some sort of a preferred customer status?
Thanks!

Hi acabgd,
Welcome to flyertalk!^,
On LH, the 747 Upper Deck is for First Class Passengers only ( ie if you book in F either in cash or miles you will be on the upper deck)
On BA the upper deck is club world ( business) however without status you will not be able to allocate a seat until T-24 ( unless on a full fare)
Other airlines which may allow seat allocation and have business on a 747 are;
(1) Air New Zealand LHR-LAX ( but may be a 777 also)
(2) VS ( Virgin Atlantic- may be a 747 or A346 but VS do fly a daily 747 to SFO from LHR)
(3) United ( maybe to SFO only and they also use the 777/767)
Regards

A couple of sites that may be of interest are:
www.seatguru.com which has seat maps of most major airlines.
www.airliners.net - go to the Photo search engine and look for cabin views of Boeing 747 (any type)
You are right to have identified that it is the upper deck that makes the 747 special - and I think the confined space of the upper deck - housed in a bulge - makes the 747 look way more impressive than the A380.

Hi,
Air New Zealand Upper Deck- some business and some premium economy;
http://seatexpert.com/seatmap/26/Air...oeing_747-400/
Air France - I think they operate a mixture of aircraft to LAX and SFO ( I have not seen a AF 747 at SFO). The timetable for the particluar day should be able to help.

Thanks for the NZ tip...!! I've just checked fares for my dates and I've found Premium Economy for the incredible 992.57!!!
But I see that NZ 747 has some Premium Economy seats at the lower deck as well. How can I make sure I fly in the Upper deck?
