From Japan I seem to recall currency change machines being available to exchange large notes, at least think it was there.

Also shopkeepers seemed to regard change making for large notes as totally routine, that one for sure in Japan.

The $10 seems to have persisted in the southern US states -- I took out $50 at a BofA ATM in downtown Atlanta and got 20x2 + 10. I've seen this in Tennessee too. All of the BofA ATMs here in the west do 20s exclusively.

I ran into a Citibank in San Francisco (in Northbeach, the one near Broadway/Columbus, about a month ago) that did $10s (2x10, 2x20 on $60) which was the first in about 4 1/2 years that I got a $10 from.

100's

In Las Vegas, ATMs frequently dispense C-notes. I've never seen this anywhere else.

ATM's I use in Brazil often vary between R$10 (US$5.50) and R$500 (US$278) depending on when, where and how much one withdraws. Ones in France vary also, but Euro 50 is the upper limit that I usually see.

the US ones seem to give giant wads of US$20. What a pain that US bills are so small denominations.

Agreed. It is very annoying if you're getting more than a couple hundred.

From the ATMs I use, only one currency available.

It would be neat to have an ATM with the capability of putting out a hundred different currencies.. the excitement would be like a Vegas Slot Machine.

In my experience, Citibank ATMs in the Northeast were very big on giving out $10s to the point where you could even withdraw a minimum of $10 instead of $20. I don't know if this has changed recently, however.

Smile ATM Denominations

Funny you should asked that. The credit Union in my area (MN. USA) also dispences in either $20's OR $5's much to my surprise. Perhaps it's more common among Credit Unions that most other banks.

I think I remember Citibank ATMs give 50s if you take out $300 or more...
