Thanks for the suggestions. I guess I was not missing anything then and it is not possible to make this work within the parameters given.
One note though, there are indeed early 6am flights from ATL on the 24th that would connect with the day-time departures from IAD, JFK, and ORD to London. But even taking those day flights doesn't help because they arrive LHR after 7pm and there are no good connections to Egypt.
Is there a day flight from the US to any other European destination, other than London?

Even worse - a potential underlying assumption is that the individual might be getting in by 8 a.m. to actually work after flying overnight.

If someone absolutely has to be somewhere at a given time, they are taking a real gamble booking a flight that is scheduled in an hour or two ahead of time.
For example, there have been plenty of threads on FT regarding missing a cruise sailing because they thought flying in a few hours ahead of time would be enough.

That's a good catch. Thank you. However, in order to get to JFK in time, he would have to take a 9:40pm Delta flight from ATL and I don't think he can get there in time from FT. Benning.

[QUOTE=The 25th seems to be the way to do it, because arriving at 935am doesn't seem to be that much difference than arriving at 8am. And if they're expecting everything to run on a Switzerland-like schedule in Egypt, they've got another thing coming anyway.[/QUOTE]
Originally, I was simply hoping for flight scheduling assistance. I wanted to check if my searches on ITA were accurate or if I was missing an unusual route or airline - but your advice on Egyptian schedules and the assumption regarding the capacity of my friend to work after a long flight are just an added bonus I guess.
FYI - both my friend and I have worked in Egypt and are familiar with long haul travel. I guess I didn't find my UGS status in a Cracker Jack box after all. But, thanks anyway.

Right there are a couple late-night flights from the northeast, but since friend cannot be at the ATL airport until very late, it doesn't matter anyway.
The best choice seems to be flying on the 24th through JFK directly to Cairo and arriving at 935.
If you're an experienced traveler, you obviously know that you can't plan on being somewhere at an appointed hour anyway. Particularly across 2 continents.
