Bag Fees

It would be nice if the airline would allow you to pay online when printing your boarding pass for checking bags. Also a cool incentive would be for those passengers checking in online they could get thier first bag at 50 percent of the bag fee or some incentive such as check one bag free when checking in online. Just like bonus frequent flier miles

It would mean buying a whole new set of machines that would accept debit & credit cards as well as printing your boarding cards & luggage labels.

So for the few people that would affect why bother?

I dunno... the kiosks already take credit cards for identification purposes, and when checking luggage you go to the ticket counter to get the tags anyways. I would think that accepting credit cards for payment would just be a matter of programming.

It appears to me that the kiosks were designed in such a fashion to be easily adapted to handle just that sort of transaction.

I fly Airtran 95% of the time, and the seocnd bag is $10 online and $20 at the airport (kiosk or agent).

From what I've heard about the kiosks, all they are doing is reading a track off the magnetic strip that happens to contain your name. Theoretically, you could swipe any card with a magnetic strip that would have information about you encoded on it, and the machine would accept it (like your drivers license).

In order for the kiosk to run credit cards, it would at least need a phone line in order to call the CC company to complete the transaction. Plus, the software would need to be reprogrammed to run the transactions.
