Snail mail vs. email?
I'm going to make a special request from a major hotel chain regarding a family vacation. Having grown up in the typewriter era, I still feel like a "real" letter will carry more weight than an email, but I'm wondering if things have shifted to where it's easier for hotel managers and executives to deal with and route email.
Thoughts? Experiences?
Thanks!

For a special request I would call them. This case you can explain your request and limit missunderstandings and you get an instant reply.
If you don't feel comfortable with email or a phone call you could send a fax.

I guess I hail from the same era as the OP, so I say that a hard copy letter via snail mail will carry more weight and get more notice than an e-mail. However, being the retentive type, I would follow up my snail mail letter with an e-mail if I don't get a response within a reasonable timeframe. In fact, I might even go with a phone call to the recipient of the letter saying "just following up on my letter of X date..."
But that's just the old-school in me.

I'm from the "computer" generation, and although I email primarily, if its something I feel strong enough about, I stick it in an envelope, slap on a stamp and mail it. Mainly this is for correspondence with airlines, and also sending out thank-yous. However, as previously suggested, a call may be more beneficial, and if it works out, send them a thank you note.

My bet is that it's not something that can be resolved on a phone call. Having said that, I appreciate the confirmation that written mail will probably still carry more weight. Off to the typewriter! (just kidding)
Thanks!
