Does your checked baggage do a mileage run as well?

I'm flying out to Asia in a couple of months to stay a few weeks. I was thinking of maximizing the number of connections on my routing to increase my miles but I was wondering.. if I check baggage, does it follow me at every stop? Because if so it will surely be lost amidst all the tight connections and transfers. Should I just stick with the simplest itinerary possible in this case?

Also, since I recently discovered the joys of traveling carry-on-only.. it's not possible to spend a month in Asia with just carry-on, right? Doesn't hurt to ask..

I spent almost two months in Asia, carry on only. And I had all my camera kit with me as well, in addition to laptop and transmission gear. It's certainly do-able.

I did check a bag on the return, but only for all the souvenir gifts I had bought.

Your checked bags go with you. I think if you have about 1 hr or so for each connection, you should be fine. Are these stopovers or just connections? If the connections are tight, bring a small carry-on with you to tide you over for a couple of days.

Go for the miles! That's why we're here

Similar here. I travel very light, and buy what I need when I get to Asia... it is so easy to get clothes, toiletries, what-have-you, that it simply doesn't pay to load myself down before I go. If I get a bunch of stuff while traveling, I get an inexpensive duffel bag and check it on the return.

Nope, don't generally take anything but a carry on for a MR.

Baggage hassles is why so many of us travel carry-on only. It is quite possible to travel for weeks at a time with no checked luggage*

* exceptions may apply depending on the gear you have to bring (eg some not allowed in the cabin)

The trick is to pack light.

I avoid also checking in my luggage for a MR, but sometimes it is necessary.

Or the reverse. Your job may require you to carry on too much 'gear' and consequently, you have to check your clothes.

Of course it is possible. Washing clothes isn't that hard(or sending them to a laundramat)
