toilets without seats

So I see the "showers without curtains" thread -- so how about those toilets without seats I saw in Italy?

A) what's the point?
B) Um... how do you use those?

Maybe you have to hover.

Hover is the answer. Very tough if your GI system is not firing on all four cylinders.

I've encountered these in several countries and are usually in more public type of restrooms. So my guess is that they are "easier" to clean. Like maybe the whole place is just hosed down or something. And if you are a woman, you just have to hope your quads can handle it! It's not easy, that's for sure.

At least for the squat toilets (hole in the ground, or something similar), you don't have to carry all your weight in your thighs!

I see this often in Latin America. Not enjoyable, but still better than the squat toilets in Asia.

OK, and especially in a foreign country, the "new" bacteria make for that to be a very real possibility.

I see a vicious cycle -- no seats = easy to clean = need to clean because of Mr ryman554 GI track = need to have easy to clean...

I tell you, I pay my euro, I want a seat.

I agree, a hole in the ground would be better.

Squat toilets are great....

...everything gets lined up properly in that position...and you can just let it fly!
Woo hoo!^

I see them fairly often here in Paris, too. Not fun for people with knee problems!

Use the same paper toilet seat covers you are used to use.

Tai chi exercise: Squat down in a chair-sitting position (not a deep knee bend). Hold that position as long as you can. Yes they have a name for that exercise, air-chair. Now you can hover.

Definitely makes for strong legs, and always a conversation starter for the first one of a group to have to use the WC.

Aim well and if your GI is working, all the better.

Either you're very small or those holes were very big. Still I hope you didn't go through the motions.

I'm tempting to google the South American's toilet seats. Based on this thread, they're different than the ones in Asia.
