I recently booked 2 e-ticket flights on-line using a credit card.

Since then I lost my credit card and cancelled it with my bank - only to find it an hour later.

I realise that a condition of an e-ticket on both my flights (different airlines) is the presentation of the orginal credit card used to purchase the tickets.

I'm just wondering if i present the orginal (but now cancelled) card at check-in will i have any problems?

They don't actually "swipe" the card for authorisation do they?

I'm sure in the past when checking in they just manual verified that the number matched the card number on the booking.

Any advice more than welcome?

Assuming the tickets were already charged to the card (before you reported it lost), then you should be OK.

The airline won't verify that the card is still active if the tickets have already been purchased. That said, I've done nothing but travel on e-tickets for years and not once have I been asked to present the credit card used for purchase...

I've never had to present my card (at least not in the last 5 years or so,) but some airlines (Singapore) still check the card when you check in. I don't know if they see if it's still valid.

One of my fights is with singapore and that's got me a little worried as this flight starts in Sri Lanka and so I will not be dealing with singapore at check in but the local SL staff who will be acting for singapore and i know from experience that the slightest problem these guys have they have they don't really know how to resolve it.

I still feel that i will take the card with me and try my luck

I recently flew SEA to LAX on Alaska
LAX to HKG on Cathay-Pacific
HKG to MNL on Cebu-Pacific
MNL to MPH on SE Asian Air...

All flights were charged to one of two credit/debit cards.
The debit card number was used for bogus transactions on the internet and two weeks before the trip the card was canceled and a new one issued. The bank re-issued the credit card (not the debit card). Then they re-issued the debit card.
These new cards had completely different numbers than what I used to book the tickets with.
I took along the old credit card and a copy of the debit card.

In LAX, the ticket agent asked to see the credit card used to purchase the ticket with... so I pulled out the old card and she looked at it and handed it back to me. I told her about the fradulent use problem, and that I had almost thrown away this card. She said that if I hadn't presented the original card, that they would have taken an imprint of the new card. I'm not sure what would have happened after that they.. would they have charged a deposit against the card to make sure the ticket was valid (I'd purchased it over 3 months prior to the trip)...

That was the only flight out of 8 total that asked for the credit card.

This same thing happened to me recently while flying on Singapore Airlines. I just took a copy of an old statement with the original number on it, and the statement showed the payment for the tickets.

It was not a problem at all.

I lost my corporate T&E card last month. OK, I left it at a bar. I didn't call the issuer for several days because I was worried about car reservations, including the car I was driving at the time. When I did finally call, I asked the agent to read me the last 5 charges. I wasn't shocked to find that I'd already been charged for the rental cars when I picked them up, and I never show my card to Avis. I think the airline's more interested in your ID than anything else. I've never had to show a credit card, although I do use one to identify myself to a kiosk.

Only time I've ever had a problem of this sort is thhis past New Years.
I went to Rome and my jacket was stolen in Testachio.
Had my credit cards in it but my passport was in my inner jacket so I was OK there.
When I got to the airport to check in for my BA flight to London they asked for the credit card. I didn't have it so they didn't issue me my boarding pass but instead sent me to the Cust Serv desk.
Gentleman at the desk asked what happened and then asked me for the police report. I produced the PR, he called over to the ticket counter, I walked back over and everything was fine.
I don't know what would have happened without that PR. They were pretty adamant about having the card I booked with.
