This is also a US airline versus non-US airline issue. I blame the dynamic of the airline management (or lack of), greedy unions, and a FAA that doesn't care about passenger comfort or freedom for leading us to this horrible situation of very poor service on US airlines. Thankfully I rarely fly US airlines anymore and I now get great service in the air.

I guess that explains why service on US carriers sucks in comparison with just about any other airline bar Aeroflot and I hear they are improving too...

But it's strange that you can travel on many Asian and European carriers, have your Diet Coke refilled every 10 minutes (with a smile believe it or not) and STILL feel perfectly safe. What am I missing here?

If people want to be tended to every single moment then hire a private plane with a private flight attendant. Other than that, suck it up.
