Help: send baggage to final destination
Hello,
Sorry to bother you, but I'm not an experienced flyer and really need some advice (I hope I'm posting in the right section...).
In august I will fly from Milan to Wellington: MXP-CDG CDG-SIN SIN-AKL AKL-WLG.
I have two electronic tickets:
- one is Air France for Milan - Paris and Paris - Singapore
- the other is Air New Zealand for Singapore - Auckland and Auckland - Wellington
Now the problem: I have 2 hrs time in Singapore before my flight to AKL leaves, so I won't have time to pass immigration, collect my baggage and check-in again with Air NZ.
Is there any way to have my baggage delivered directly to my last destination (WLG), even if the two tickets and airlines are not connected to each other??
Can I ask in MXP to send everything in WLG?
thanks for any advice,
Gio-

I believe if you tell the first carrier, they will check your bags all the way through to the final destination. In other words, Air France should be able to tage the bags for both their flights and the ANZ flights.
Someone else with more knowledge than I should be able to confirm.
By the way, welcome to FlyerTalk!

This is surely the best solution, as I should be able to get my boarding pass in SIN at the tranfer counters without having to pass through immigration...
Anybody else can confirm this?

This is no problem. All you will need to do is show both tickets. We learned this when we flew one portion on a skymiles Delta ticket and the other on an AA paid ticket. Check the bags and relax.

Unfortunately neither Air France nor Air New Zealand are willing to do anything to have my baggage transferred directly to WLG.
I asked them several times and they always said there was NO CHANCE to do this, because there are no agreements between the two airlines.
I am quite surprised... It shouldn't be that huge effort to put another tag on a baggage. Consider that I'm flying business... I was expecting a little bit more collaboration...
So, I will have to spend 26hrs in Singapore... Guess I will have to take a tour of the city

-gioIt sort of like asking Saks to ask Bloomingsdale's to send out a package for a customer that bought something from Saks.

There is also more details, such as: who takes responsiblity if the luggage gets lost/damaged? The first or the second airline?

However, I am surprised that AF and NZ don't have an agreement. I have a suspicion that you've actually hit a different problem: Many airlines will no longer transfer bags to another airline if the travel is written on two separate tickets (as yours is), as strictly speaking there has never been any obligation to do so.
If you wanted collaboration, you would have done better to ensure that your flights were with airlines in the same alliance. They will usually transfer bags to other alliance partners even if there are two separate tickets involved. I suspect that there are several options that you could have taken that would have been all within the same alliance.
