Internal flights - US
Hello,
apologies if this is in the wrong section...
I'm trying to book a one-way flight from MYR to RDU but the UK travel websites have been giving prices of Ł200 GBP.
Is it cheaper to book this flight from a US website?
All advice happily accepted
Thanks,
Mark

Doesn't look like it gets much cheaper. No matter what, you need to connect somewhere. The fastest flight time including connection I could find was 2 hours 20 min. You might as well just rent a car and drive, It'll take you less than 4 hours and be a lot cheaper.

Greyhound (major bus operator) has 7-day advance purchase bus ticket for 41 dollars one way. Check out www.greyhound.com , according to their website they have 3 buses per day between Myrtle Beach and Raleigh and it takes 4 hours and 20 minutes.

The problem with Greyhound is that you might find yourself being dropped off somewhere you don't want to be. If you dio not have someone to come pick you up it might be a real hassle. The US is not known for it's public transport, to put it mildly.
Where in RDU are you trying to get to? Downtown, the airport?
Where are you flying into originally?

One way car hire isn't usually a problem with one of the big national chains like Hertz and Avis. It would only present a problem if the outlet is a franchise in which case someone would need to go and collect it from where you dropped it off which does incur fees. If you find this is the case then go to the next agency!

Cheers for the "greyhound- no!" tip
I need to get to Raleigh Airport.
Alamo will do a one way hire but when I hired a few years ago the "extra" insurance was a lot of $$$. What insurance do I need?
Thanks again and sorry if it's considered off-topic...

Call your credit card company and ask what type of coverage they provide for rental car in the US. If you have an American Express or Dinners Club card make sure and check with them. They can sometimes do a good deal booking the car with all the insurances included.
Also call your personal policy from the UK. Ask if they cover any type of rental car in the US.
A one-way one day rental even with full insurance will still be cheaper than a flight or the hassle of trying to get to the airport on public transport.
If you give dates people here will usually check their various sites and post approxilmate prices for you.
We're pretty friendly on FlyerTalk.

With a little effort, you CAN find a few bargains on one way rental cars. National historically has been the best company for this, but lately I've been getting some reasonably good deals from Hertz. Check the car rental forums for code numbers and "deals", then go to the car rental company websites. MYR-RDU isn't all that far of a drive (by U.S. standards). You can get away with a one-day rental and probably do it for around $100 or perhaps even slightly less (including gasoline).
