I'm OK with it if it's a Victorious Secretions ad with semi-nekkid wimmin. :D

Mustn't forget all that empty space on the back of the seat in front of you. Lower the tray table, get told to buy Nexium!

With all teh references to Southwest being a flying bus I can see ads on the overheads just like on a regular bus. Do me a favor and burn this thread before anyone at the airlines picks up on this. :D

As far as ads helping lower consumers prices, I doubt it. Movie theatres now spend 20 minutes showing you commercials before a movie and ticket prices are much higher than before they started this ugly practice.

I don't like it, but as a business person it makes sense.

Airlines need to offer different services (show / not show ads) and off people way to pay for them (see them / not see them).

I think we will see very aspect of the airline experience be dismantled, and then resold piece by piece. Specific seats, ads/no ads, number of carry on's, your weight will be based on dollars, not an everyone is equal as it is today.

Don't they do this already on Ryanair?

I'm neutral...with ads everywhere from buses to bathroom stall doors, I'm pretty much immune to them. On a plane, they'd just join the visual clutter and be lost on me.

I think that we will eventually see ads on overhead bins, seatbacks, tray tables, and in the lavs. If there is an empty space, it will be for sale. If they could get them to stay on, how about ads on the side of the planes like they have on buses?

It's just plain tacky.

I'm OK, as long as there aren't any ads for oversized luggage, with an adline such as, "XXXX Airline and your mondo luggage right here, a perfect match!"

as219 Mar 23, 2006 3:43 pm

Are you kidding? If UA starts doing this, I'm seriously going to write letters to both the advertiser and UA that I will expressly avoid purchasing I see advertised in this way. It's one thing to put them in the IFE, Hemispheres, etc., but overhead bins and tray tables? That's too far. :td: :td: :td: One of the aesthetically nice things about flying is the lack of clutter, the feeling that I'm getting away from all the crap down below. Sounds like some of you are okay with that crap at 35,000 feet.

If FTers don't say something about this loudly, it may become a reality very very soon. I vote a resounding :td: :td: :td: :td:

Agreed, very tacky. Both: ads on overhead bins and OP's comments on VSecret models.

I don't think so yet. However you can have the entire exterior for your product :D

Tacky? Sure. But would you expect more from Jet2 or any other LCC?

wharvey Mar 23, 2006 5:00 pm

I would not mind if the airline was advertising for itself... or it credit card... or some promotion... but really do not want to see product placement for non-airline companies.
