Lost ID Question
I was recently on a UA flight and I happened to leave my Passport/ID on the plane... Well my same FA was on my connecting flight, and was very helpful and had the new captain call the captain of the plane which we were on which turned around from LAX to BOS who turned it into the station L&F. They FedExed it out to me yesterday. Now the problem is it was supposed to be delivered today, but Fedex said due to hurricane no go.. Funny thing is I have a UPS next day package which is out for delivery today... So Now tomorrow morning I am heading to HNL and the next day NRT. What should I do? Fedex won't do anything! The only ID I have is my Padi Dive card. Should I go to HNL and hope FedEx will reroute there? Or change my flights?

How long were you planning to be in HNL? Without the passport, you wont get on the plane to NRT, so would you rather wait for it at home, or in NHL?
Tough situation to be in. Good luck

FedEx is on a hub and spoke system
Their base is in Memphis thus being pounded by weather, thus causing a delay. If you have a tracking number, you may request that they re-route to HNL, but there are no guarantees that it will be re-routed and it may take an additional day. I'd call FedEx and 800-go-fedex to see what delays they are expecting and make your decision there.
I am a client of all three commercial carriers and have noticed that FedEx does have the best tracking systems for their domestic shipping. If you are wondering, the UPS sorting facility is in (ky i think), and DHL is in OH. If the package was sent using either of those, you wouldn't have a problem because they were not affected by the storm...yet.

Well I got rerouted to HNL. They said it will be there tomorrow morning. I called later for a second opinion... And was told that it is in Memphis and may go to Pacheco (Concord CA) tonight (if the planes even leave mem) Then will be turned around to MEM and off to HNL. I am pissed no one at FedEx will give me a straight answer For $25+ A letter they should have more control.. Anyway So I am hoping that it will get to Concord airport before their office closes and get tonight if not right when they open tomorrow. I will miss my HNL flight, but thats better than missing NRT flight.

Notary Public
How long will you be in NRT?
If it's a short MR, I don't know what you can do. If you will be in Japan longer, you maybe able to get a notary public to prove citizenship while you await the passport. They will need a photocopy of your birth certificate. However, you may want to contact the airline and/or the Japanese embassy to confirm if this will be acceptable.
This works for travel to Mexico. As I mentioned, Japan and the airline maybe a different story, as the airline will be responsible for flying you back if you are not accepted into the country.
