DVTs, redeyes, and a new exercise program

I'm about 40, decent health but I've been doing a lot of exercise recently, aerobic. Looking to get myself up to about 40 min per day of aerobic. The problem is, I'm a frequent flyer. Not as much in the past few weeks, but I have some international trips coming up soon and few redeyes.

So, I've heard that strenuous exercise increases the chance of DVT. Does anyone know why? Is there anything I should do aside from the standard "drink lots of water and change position."? Should I avoid exercise immediately prior to flights or something?

Any help or pointers would be appreciated.

DVT is you're vessels clotting, maybe strenuous exercise causes minor bleeding which then could clot more than you'd want it to, if you're sitting still for a long time. A good idea before a long flight is to take an aspirin just before it.
