Milan help!!!
Hi,
My sister is fly AZ tomorrow EWR-MXP-TLV. She has a layover in MXP from 12.20 till 22.45. What can anyone recommend for her to do? I believe she'll be meeting some friends there who came in from JFK. She's 19 and a student, and LOVES shopping. What areas can anyone recommend to go and how to get there? I haven't been to Italy.. yet, so I really can't recommend anything to her. I heard something about cheap shopping outlets, i'm sure she'd love to visit, and even the really expensive stores to look at. What can be done in such a short amount of time?
thanks in advance for your advice.

The prime shopping area is right by La Scala. (Sorry, I don't know the subway stop but I'm sure others will.) Definitely a place she'll like although th evalue of the dollar rigt now may discourage her from buying much.
We found 2 years ago that public transportation to and from the airport is a little clumsy. We took a subway to a central subway station, then took a train from there to the Central Train Station (Mussolini-era; definitely worth getting outside and looking around). From there, subway transportation is fine. You can buy tickets at all the newsstands.

The easiest way into the city would be the airport bus that goes to the central train station, from there I would suggest talking the #3 (Yellow) subway line to the Duomo/La Scala area where she can walk around and soak up the atomosphere. Also the big department store- Rinacente is just across from the Duomo, and for a nice break she can stop for a snack in their casual cafe on the top floor with open views of the Duomo and the city . From there it's an easy walk down a main (yet not wildly expensive) local shopping area, Via Dante. At the end of Via Dante is the Castello Sforzesco which is a big castle/museum/park etc. From there she can get the subway (#2 - Green) line back to the central train station and the express bus back to MXP. In this way, she can see some of the big tourist attractions, get some 'real' shopping in, and get a general feel for the city.
