Hotel Amenities
Just returned from a leisure stay and the question came up again:
with all the bath amenities hotels usually lay out for you in the room (lotion, shampoo, conditioner, soap, sewing kits, etc...) why don't they ever provide toothpaste? it is the one thing which everyone uses, and the one thing I hate bringing a large tube for a short trip. It is probably also the cheapest items for them to provide....

But most hotels don't. And I'm not sure why. Airlines frequently offer toothpaste on international flights, after all.

Maybe because if you put in toothpaste, you will have to also put in a couple of toothbrushes, and that might add up in cost in the long run.

Why bring a large tube? You can buy travel size most drugstores for under a buck. Or ask the dentist next time you go.
And FWIW, the times I've forgotten my toothbrush or toothpaste, I've always been able to call down and request one.

Even some of the mid-priced chains provide toothpaste and other necessities upon request at no charge. Others, like Homewood Suites, have a pantry store where you can buy a tube for a buck.

Best Westerns have a "Forgot Something?" notice in the bathroom directing the guest to contact the front desk if such items are needed [at no charge].

I've seen it in only one place I've stayed and that was the Bellagio in Las Vegas. I've been in quite a few Hiltons in Europe and have never seen toothpaste among the amenities.
Our dentist usually gives us a new toothbrush and a sample size of the latest version of Crest- that goes into the travel bag.
