Connecting in DFW....

I'm flying STL-DFW-LAX-SYD in August. My problem is I have 40 minutes to make my flight to LAX in DFW, assuming the flight from STL is on time. So my question is, can I connect in 40 min. at DFW? Possibly with a terminal change too? Thanks.

That is a tight connection for DFW. If all goes well it shouldn't be a problem but often, you end up waiting for a gate at DFW. Considering you are going to be trying to catch a flight for SYD once at LAX, you might want to make sure you won't be screwed if you miss a connection in DFW and need to take a later flight.

Well my LAX flight is scheduled to get in at 2:00PM and the SYD flight doesn't leave until 1150PM so I'm not terribly worried about that but I'd like to make my connection in DFW if I could.

So if everything goes to plan(which rarely happens), I could make this connection? As long as it's not impossible....

Certainly. If you are facing a lengthy walk (e.g. from gate A3 to C39), you may want to consider riding the TrAAin. Take a look at the map in the back of the American Way magazine when the flight attendant reads out the connecting information before landing at DFW.

Your connection is definitely do-able. And if you miss the DFW-LAX flight, it sounds like you will have plenty of time to get on a later flight.

If all goes well, you could make this connection. The question you shoul dbe asking is whether you should run for it or take the TrAAin if you change terminals.

I'm assuming you're flying AA STL-DFW-LAX? If so, you can take the AA TrAAin that will keep you airside to transfer between terminals, as it can really be a hike to change terminals at DFW.

If you're changing carriers at DFW, then you really might have trouble as you don't want to take the public trains outside security to change terminals.

If you're flying any other carrier STL-DFW-LAX, you won't have a terminal change.

Yeah it's all on AA. So the concensus is to take the TrAAin?

Thanks for the help, you all seem pretty cool here.... ^

Not necessarily. It's one option. It really depends on the distance between your arrival and departure gates, whether your inbound flight is early,on time, or late, whether your outbound flight is on time or delayed, whether you are in good health, whether you enjoy physical exercise, etc. Like I said, check out the terminal map at the back of the American Way magazine when you near DFW and decide for yourself.

And welcome to FlyerTalk.

As previously posted, it depends. The terminal maps at DFW indicate whether it would be better to walk or take the train. If it is boderline, I usually will choose to walk. But I just noticed you won't be flying until August. The new Skylink will be in service then which should greatly improve the situation. I believe the new trains will run in both directions which will eliminate the need to make the whole loop if your connecting gate is "behind" you.

You might want to check out the American Airlines forum here for more information. Most there would be pros at moving through DFW
