Lost luggage options

On a recent SAT-MUC, routed through CDG, AF lost my luggage. AF said I could spend 150 euros on clothes, but I only spent about half that. Four days after returning home, my luggage showed up, but of course it had been thoroughly gone through. They stole a nice dress shirt, a shaver, and a number of logoed business gifts. Now AF tells me that I can only be "considered" for reimbursement if I have the original receipts for everything that was stolen.

Anyone know what my options are? They are neither forthcoming nor considerate, even though they managed to ruin my business trip.

Thanks!

That is why we have travel insurance. But to claim on a travel insurance policy you will likely need to submit a Police report about the theft.

Not quite sure what travel insurance has to do with my question. The point is that AF wants original receipts in order to cover stolen items. Who keeps those for everything you might ever put in your luggage??

My point is that if the airline is making it difficult for you to recover the cost of the lost/stolen goods, then deal you with your travel insurance policy provider as lost, stolen, damaged or delayed luggage should be a basic component of any worthwhile travel insurance policy.
