Do you prefer the 2 x 5 x 2 layout or the 3 x 3 x 3 in the Boeing 777. I orefer 2 x 5 x 2 as it is couple friendly and only houses 1 prisoner that need to pass 2 people to get out

I like 2-5-2, myself. That way, if the plane is full, you have more room as the window and aisle can lean away from each other. Can't really do that with a middle seat person.

I prefer 2-5-2.
This configuration lets 4 couples sit abreast with a spare centre seat (the least popular) and no two couples together or a couple broken up.
I like a window seat. Only one person to move for me to get out if I am on my own. If we are a couple, it's just our seats.
Families with even only one child, or parties of 3, always get put in the centre. Good. More chance of a window seat.
For families with multiple children this arrangement allows them to all sit together.
It would be interesting to rig out an aircraft front half of Y one configuration, rear the other, and see which was preferred.

I stongly favor the 2-2-2 or 1-2-1 layout that's found in the front of the plane, of course 
Barring that, I prefer 3-3-3 as I don't want to chance being in the middle seat of the 5...
Is any airline using unconventional seat plans, like 2-2-2-2 or something like that?

Not to mention it would be both very space inefficient and it would make cabin service a nightmare.

I prefer the 3-3-3 format b/c if the flight is nearly filled to the capacity and all the left & right sided rows with the 2-5-2 format, you might be stuck on the middle with the 5 seats which would be a hassle moving in and out. Much better in moving in & out with 3 as oppose to 5 seats.

3 x 4 x 2 has been very popular, because it has the best of both worlds... but the problem is the cabin isnt properly aligned with the overhead bins. However, some airlines (KLM, Swiss etc) have chosen it because it is so much more popular with passengers.

Generally, on empty flights, you could argue for the 3 x 3 x 3 layout.. but if the flight is full, there really isnt anything that would make the 3 x 3 x 3 more desirable.

On an empty flight, the 3 x 3 x 3 becomes significantly better... all the couples will have a free middle seat.
Emirates offers a 3 x 4 x 3 layot. The seats are very narrow, and very uncomfortable... im sure we can all agree that the worst layout award can go to Emirates.
