B777

Do you prefer the 2 x 5 x 2 layout or the 3 x 3 x 3 in the Boeing 777. I orefer 2 x 5 x 2 as it is couple friendly and only houses 1 prisoner that need to pass 2 people to get out

I like 3x3 because you have a better chance of an open seat on a flight.

Cool

I could care less about that "couple-friendly" crap. I prefer 3x3x3 for the reason stated above. I prefer an empty seat in the middle no matter who I'm with.

I like 2-5-2, myself. That way, if the plane is full, you have more room as the window and aisle can lean away from each other. Can't really do that with a middle seat person.

I prefer 2-5-2.

This configuration lets 4 couples sit abreast with a spare centre seat (the least popular) and no two couples together or a couple broken up.

I like a window seat. Only one person to move for me to get out if I am on my own. If we are a couple, it's just our seats.

Families with even only one child, or parties of 3, always get put in the centre. Good. More chance of a window seat.

For families with multiple children this arrangement allows them to all sit together.

It would be interesting to rig out an aircraft front half of Y one configuration, rear the other, and see which was preferred.

I stongly favor the 2-2-2 or 1-2-1 layout that's found in the front of the plane, of course

Barring that, I prefer 3-3-3 as I don't want to chance being in the middle seat of the 5...

Is any airline using unconventional seat plans, like 2-2-2-2 or something like that?

The planes are not designed for more then two-aisles. So you'd have mismatched bins and overhead lighting and HVAC.

Not to mention it would be both very space inefficient and it would make cabin service a nightmare.

What about 2-4-3, like on KLM's MD11s?

3x3x3 any day - same number of windows, more aisles, fewer middles. The odds of getting a decent seat are far better.

What am I missing? It's 9 seats and two aisles either way, so by definition 2 window seats, 4 aisle seats, and 3 middle seats. In 333 the two window travelers will need to crawl over two people to use the lav, whereas in 252 only one person will need to do so, and they have a choice in which direction to go. Being a window seat guy and fortunate enough to have avoided the middle on full transPacs, I do much prefer the 252 .

I prefer the 3-3-3 format b/c if the flight is nearly filled to the capacity and all the left & right sided rows with the 2-5-2 format, you might be stuck on the middle with the 5 seats which would be a hassle moving in and out. Much better in moving in & out with 3 as oppose to 5 seats.

3 x 4 x 2 has been very popular, because it has the best of both worlds... but the problem is the cabin isnt properly aligned with the overhead bins. However, some airlines (KLM, Swiss etc) have chosen it because it is so much more popular with passengers.

No different than being in a window seat in 3-3-3 configuration. In fact, with 2-5-2, you have a choice of which side to get out.

Generally, on empty flights, you could argue for the 3 x 3 x 3 layout.. but if the flight is full, there really isnt anything that would make the 3 x 3 x 3 more desirable.

3 x 3 x 3 Best for Small Families. 2 Prisoners
2 x 5 x 2 Best for Large Families & Couples. 1 Prisoner

On an empty flight, the 3 x 3 x 3 becomes significantly better... all the couples will have a free middle seat.

Emirates offers a 3 x 4 x 3 layot. The seats are very narrow, and very uncomfortable... im sure we can all agree that the worst layout award can go to Emirates.

Although SEA_Tigger has made a good comment on how difficult it would be to arrange this, I'd love to see it tried. I don't understand why cabin service would be a problem, as all seat blocks would be accessible from the outer blocks (and the centre aisle would be handy for heading to the lavatories when the other aisles were blocked by trolleys).
