... so i dont mind waiting

Hi,

I'm new to this website, but i was thinking that this is the best place for advise.

Now i'm a university student, definately saving every bit of money i have goes a long way...

so my flight KLM/NorthWest is on the 16th of December to Amsterdam (stop over) and then India. I've heard stories where many people are requested to wait back for an extra day when flights are over-booked and they get $250 refund for the wait, as well as a full day's stay at a hotel thats affiliated with the airline.

Now, instead of them asking me to stay, is it possible for me to ask them and volunteer out myself. I dont have to reach india until the 20th anyways, so i could use the extra cash.

any thoughts on this are highly appreciated.

thanks a million,
ruth

You can volunteer, It genereally only works when the flight is oversold. There are other circumstances which would lead the airline to request volunteers. Depending on the time of the flight, your compensation could vary. If you are lucky you will be the chance to take the "bump". Good luck!

ruth, welcome to FlyerTalk! As you see, we are a very welcoming but a large Community. This forum is for setting up meetings and parties and celebrating what FTers have achieved as members. It's really not for travel questions per se. Am not sure whether you will be flying NW or KLM metal and since your question is a more general one about overbooked flights, I'll move this to a more apt forum, TravelBuzz, where you might get some more help. Thanks, Ocn Vw 1K, Co-Moderator.
