Oxygen in Italy?

Hi, all,

My partner and I are going to spend two weeks in Italy next month. He suffers from cluster headaches 1-2 month/year, which are greatly relieved by the use of oxygen. Unfortunately, the headaches started last week so it looks as though he might be having to deal with them while we are away.

Our carrier (Delta) is able to make arrangements for oxygen during the flights over and back so no problem there.

We will be in a hotel in Venice for the first week and although we haven't investigated yet, assume that the hotel will be able to help out with arrangements for getting him oxygen. (If this is not the case, please disabuse me of my notions!)

However, the second week, we are staying at a rental in the Tuscan countryside, about 10 km north of Siena. Does anyone have any idea of how one would go about arranging obtaining oxygen under such circumstances?

We fly into VCE, return from BLQ so picking up and returning the oxygen in VCE doesn't seem like a viable option.

Any ideas or suggestions are welcome.

Thanks,

David

If you are using oxygen at home, ask your supplier. The larger suppliers have information on other suppliers all over the world. If you are not currently using a local supplier, you could call one of the larger suppliers to ask for references in Italy.

Thanks, Phil, great suggestion. He is also checking out a cluster headaches web site where there is information about obtaining oxygen abroad.

BTW we found out a couple of days ago what Delta charges for supplying ocygen - $100 per segment. And they won't let pax carry their own portable oxygen supply. I get why they don't, because of the safety and security issues, but charging at that rate seems way too expensive. No more double connects for extra miles for us LOL! Hopefully, insurance will cover some of that cost - they cover 80% of "reasonable and customary" so maybe we'll get a little of it back.
