Bear Stearns travel policy

I'm considering a new job opportunity with Bear Stearns in NYC. Can anyone share with me what their travel policy is like? I don't want to appear petty by asking in the interviews, but being a die-hard FTer I would really like to know.

In particular:

- Is business class travel OK on transcons and/or international?

- Do you have to fly with a preferred carrier?

- Can you keep your points/miles?

Anything else that may be interesting would be appreciated. If you prefer to keep a response confidential, please PM me.

Thank you !

Sorry for going a little left-of-topic here, but while I can't help you w/the travel policies of that company, I would like to say:

If you're gonna be traveling for them, I doubt that they would consider these questions petty. They could, if fact, look at it from the standpoint that you are really considering all facets of the job and looking hard & seriously about making a career at their company.

Yes, asking too early about benefits and such could be a negative, and should probably be handled by one of their HR specialists, but I wouldn't worry too much about asking about somethiing that is an integral part of the job.

Again, my apologies for being a kind-of "buttinsky."

I work for a conglomerate I'll call Giant Enterprise. Answers below in bold.

I'm entitled to Business only on very long routes, e.g., MCI-DEL. Not to Europe.

- Do you have to fly with a preferred carrier?

We have to use the in-house travel agency but have a wide variety of airline/hotel choices.
- Can you keep your points/miles?

Yes.

You may be required to use the company credit card for travel. We are. Keep in mind, though, that if you ask too many "mileage-slave" questions they may get concerned that you'll make decisions contrary to the company's interest to maximize miles. One colleague in my business is actually against loyalty programs because of this. Fortunately, I don't work with him.

I agree with hnechets:

I just took a job from one brokerage firm to another. After the usual info about the job, I asked them who their preferred carriers are, what hotels they use, how their expense policy worked, etc. I flat out told them that I'm not a snob, but if I travel for a living, I have some guidelines. I told them that I'm a Starwood person, and don't stay in Hampton's or other second tier chains, I don't fly discount airlines - unless they are substantially cheaper, and I don't deal with very cheap meal allowances.

I had to be honest because I didn't want to take a job and then be miserable afterwards - it would affect my performance.

Just as an FYI - I hear Bear is not too liberal with expenses.
