Question Europe Vacation Help

I discovered flyertalk a few days ago and have been addicted to it since then! I love learning tricks from more experienced travelers.

Here's my question: I'm going to a few places in Europe later this year and need some help getting from London to Stansted airport for a 7:40am flight. Has anyone been there? What's the best way to do this?

I've also been looking and have had no luck with a particular flight segment. I need to go from Vienna to Paris on 15 or 16 Dec, one-way, without breaking the bank. Any ideas? I'm very open for suggestions.

Thanks!

Derek

Welcome to Flyertalk!

You can take the Stansted Express - which starts running at around 4 am (slightly later at week-ends). Or you can try to stay somewhere closer, like the Stansted Hilton (five minutes away, with a shuttle bus) or the Saracens Head in Great Dunmow. There is also a little hotel in Takeley, about two minutes from the airport going in through the back road, but I can't remember its name

Hello and welcome!
www.skyeurope.com have tix on offer for the particular route for 44.48 one way including taxes. Admittedly their "Vienna" airport is in Bratislava, but they offer a bus from Vienna for another 10 Euros or you can take the train which shouldn't be too expensive (it's only 50 km after all).

I've done Stansted by bus before from London Victoria station. They do run early in the day to make your flight out. You'll see an "airports" link on the site.
National Express link

edited to add: the "coach" station is different than the train station...it's about a block behind the train station (don't confuse it with the red London buses parked out in front of the rail station)

Hmmm...sounds enticing....has anyone been to Bratislava? Or taken this route from Vienna? I wonder if it would be worth hanging around for a few hours...

Bratislava is a small city, but the old town is pretty, and has plenty bars, cafs and restaurants to keep you occupied.

The journey from Vienna to Bratislava is simple enough, but bear in mind that the airport is half-way between the two.

Air Berlin (http://www.airberlin.com/) have also started up direct VIE-STN flights, and have some good rates.

I've been to Bratislava, quite a nice compact city. The train from vienna takes less than an hour.

The Stansted Express (like the Gatwick Express and the Heathrow Express) is quick and reliable. Not particularly cheap. But then, nothing in London is particularly cheap.

Welcome to FT changerzbb!

FYI, for your reading/research pleasure, there are forums dedicated to frequent travel destinations in the Travel&Dining: Featured Destinations section below, there is a London Forum here.

Also, there is an active general Europe forum in the Travel&Dining: Destination >> the World section below.

Using SIMPLE key words in the search function will more than likely yield answers to queries you make.

Enjoy!
