What's going on in Boston?
I am considering a whirlwind trip this weekend as AF has decent last-minute fares and I would really like to spend a couple days there soon. Hotels on Expedia are coming up $2600 for a standard queen at the Comfort Inn.
Some are sky-high Friday night, others on Saturday. Even my standby Tremont is nearly double the normal web rate.
The hotel might cost more than the flight. Anyone know why?

Boston is probably not the place to be heading this weekend.
Keep checking, the doubletree downtown for example still has $199 rooms available for Sat and Sunday.

Or fly to BOS and immediately fly somewhere else.
I'll wager rental cars might be unavailable too.

Lots of choices on Hotwire.com.
From a 2.5 star at the Airport for $69, 4 star in Financial district for $113.
I checked for Friday and Saturday.

Especially if Interstate 93 is closed:

Yup, go somewhere else.

I have to get there for an event that I am producing. The main convention starts on Monday and rooms are hard to get within an hour of Boston. I was able to rent a car yesterday for Saturday - Tuesday from Hertz (Expedition $100/day) - big ripoff, but it is the corporate deal.
How is the Sheraton Newton?????
Wish me luck......

Is the Sheraton Newton the hotel that overhangs the Masspike? If so, then it is fine.
Where are you going to park downtown? Many of the metered spots have been blocked off and the garages are only accepting monthly parkers. I know there is a bus that runs from Newton, but who knows how the Pike will be.

Travel into Boston for DNC
Some of the travel restrictions start tomorrow night....a couple of sites that have info on Boston and transportation in particular are www.boston04.com and www.mbta.com (MBTA is the public transit system). There are T (short for MBTA) stations in Newton on the Green line that might be your best option. The Mass Pike will be open with some restrictions (lane closures) as you get closer to the city. The primary issue is that parts of I93 will be totally closed to traffic - after 4 PM til 1 AM throughout the convention. What all of us that commute around Boston don't know is how heavy the traffic will be on the roads that are open from all the traffic that is going to be diverted off the closed roads. Good Luck...........also, the Sheraton is definitely the hotel that "hangs over" the Mass Pike
