Let's talk about SIN
I'm going to be heading to SIN to visit a friend in August for about four days. In order to take advantage of KL's cheap J ticket, I need to stay for seven days. So I'm thinking maybe I'll head up to HKG for a couple days, or maybe BKK.
Looking at fares for a quick jaunt ex-SIN on the 15th and back on the 17th, I'm seeing economy flights on no-name airlines for $1,000. This seems kinda high.
I have to return from SIN (can't do a 1-way to HKG) with this fare.
Anyone have suggestions for a good way to kill a couple days in the region or, better yet, find a decent fare to HKG? I've heard it's cheap and easy to just walk up to an MH flight or something once there, but I'd hate to risk it.
And while we're at it, on the subject of hotels in SIN. I've always stayed in the Carlton (not the RC) across from Raffles mall and really enjoyed it. It looks like around $115USD for a club floor room during my stay. Is there any reason to look at something else? Conrad, RC, etc. are higher, but I'm not sure about the respective benefits. I'd kind of like to stay in the Raffles/Chijmes area.
Thanks everyone.

Alan, here is a great site with reduced airfares from Singapore:

Have a look at it and it will fire your imagination about places to go. Bali is a place that comes to my mind.

Check out www.valuair.com.sg (it's a new LCC out of SIN)
For 6/15 - 6/17:
SIN-BKK is S$199+39tax = S$238 (114EUR)
SIN-HKG is S$300+56tax = S$356 (170EUR)
Hope that helps.

Air Asia
There, I said it. Now flies between Singapore and Thailand. They have a website. Also flies JHB-KUL and beyond. How about a train trip to Butterworth?
How about a ferry ride to Batam or Bintam in Indonesia. How about a bus ride to Malacca or Kuala Lumpur? How about a flight to Langkawi. How about looking on the SQ website for specials. BTW, exit rows in coach on SQ are pretty good and they have an excellent entertainment systems. Or maybe you should spend the entire week in Singapore with a day trip to JB for contrast.
Here are the specials on SQ this week: http://www.singaporeair.com/saa/app/...ils/vp415.html
Hotels can be found on a singapore stopover package with SQ. something like take the bus to KUL and fly SQ back on a stopover, throw away the return ticket.
Stopover hotels and their rates. Rates do not include tax. http://www.singaporeair.com/saa/app/...currentSite=id

). Others in the Raffles/Marina Square area I'd recommend in the price range you're looking at are the Swissotel Stamford (which has great views, and nice rooms - though the bathrooms aren't that special), or Raffles Plaza (if you want to spend a few dollars more - nicer rooms, but less view). But if you're happy at the Carlton I wouldn't worry about paying too much extra elsewhere - it's a nice hotel in a good location, and if you keep going back they must be treating you right
.
