any tips on getting bumped

I'm flying TWA from LGA-STL-SFO on a Monday and the same route back that Thursday.I'm flying on a free voucher I got from being bumped off LAX-JFK flightI would love to get bumped coming back.Does anyone have any tips or stratagies that can help?(i.e.-how to see how booked a flight is;when to voulanteer;what to ask for in compensation-voucher,ff miles or otherwise)

Easiest way is to call the airline and ask if the flight is oversold.

If it is, get to gate early and ask if they are looking for volunteers, if they are, ask what they are offering. If you like the offer, tell them you'll volunteer.

Generally, you can't ask for compensation, they'll tell you what they are offering, and you get to say yes or no.

I would scope out possible flights if you do get bumped, so you can make an informed choice.

Good luck.

Although, not likely at SFO, pray for 110 degree heat wave. That should thin the air enough to cause a weight restriction and force more bumping

Been a million words written on this, many of them here if you search "bumping" in this Forum. An evening FRIDAY flight on trunk routes is generally accepted as the best bet, especially on a carrier that does not have heavy service and can thus reschedule some of the load.

Your choice of Monday then is IMHO a pretty bad start!

TWA? Connection in STL? "Call the airline?"

What an old thread!

My tips:
1) Get an expertflyer account and check loads.
2) Get to the airport early.

Given the thread's age and the changes in the industry over that time, we'll give this one a permanent rest. Ocn Vw 1K, Moderator.
