Care to tell us more about yourself, where you've been, and what you like to do?
Reno has the desert, gambling, wonderful tackiness, and disgusting buffets. Ann Arbor has college town stuff, and "culture," whatever that is. Reno will have better weather.

If it is indeed Ann Arbor, Michigan, there's not much there other than a college town. There is shopping but you can do that anywhere. But if you do end up going there, there is this bakery/food shop that sells really good bread -- Zingerman's, I think.
I certainly wouldn't travel to Ann Arbor unless I had soem friends or relatives to see.
And the weather isn't great in Michigan.

As an AA native, I agree that there isn't much touristy stuff to do in April. In the summer, you have the art fairs. In the fall, football games. April? As others have said, unless visiting family or friends, weather alone (and really not much else) would make me choose Reno.

Being from A2, I would definitely pick Reno to visit! If it was the summer time, it would be a different story but right now it's COLD here and I'm sure it won't be much better next month. I'm headed to Houston next month for a week.

2) On the contrary, late April/early May is usually when the ten glorious days of spring make their appearance in Ann Arbor, sandwiched between a cold and damp winter and a hot and humid summer.
It really depends on your priorities. If seeing desert, mountains, and tawdry knock-offs of Vegas casinos are interesting novelties for you, and you don't mind connecting flights, go for Reno. Probably too late for decent skiing and too early for water sports, but maybe you can catch a David Brenner show.
Ann Arbor in April is a sleepy college town waking from winter hibernation. The wee ones should be finishing their finals, throwing graduation parties, conducting the Naked Mile. Enough to keep you busy for a weekend probably but not much longer. Decent sushi near I-94 and S. Main St. Coming from the City are you? 1h 30 each way in the air from NY vs. 7-8h with connections to RNO.
Either way, good luck and have fun.

Reno can save you money if you go with your wife. You only have to buy her a one-way ticket.

Dumb question: if you are going for a full weekend, why WOULDN'T you go to Tahoe? Isn't U of Mich about as far away from DTW as Tahoe is from Reno?
Maybe provide us a little more information...for example, why those two particular cities? Is it a business trip with some time commitment in Reno/A.A., or is it a wide-open weekend? What activities are you looking for? Etc...

I am so happy to hear they still have the Hash Bash. It is little traditions like that which weave the fabric of our society. To think, students in the new millenium being a part of the same customs as their ancestors in the last. Probably the only thing unchanged from when I was in grad school there. It brings a tear to my eye and a rasp to my throat
